Description: The Fauststube restaurant in the Hotel zum Löwen in Staufen, was once home...
The Fauststube restaurant in the Hotel zum Löwen in Staufen, was once home to the legendary Doctor Johann Georg Faustus, and today is a gourmet-restaurant. In the centre of the historical old part of town, the chef here welcomes his guests with a fine selection of regional specialities. To add a bit of variety, there is an ever-changing daily menu, seasonal offerings, and last, but not least, the ?Espuma-Menu?. Those who like something extraordinary can have a go themselves in the molecular-kitchen. To round off the culinary delicacies, you can try a specially selected wine from the wine cellar. When the weather is good, you can also take in the historical atmosphere of Steufen outside on the sun terrace. For those who need to work, the Hotel zum Löwen offers a W-LAN internet connection.

The restaurant is part of the gasthaus where Dr. Faust blew himself up in an alchemy experiment tying to make gold. We were given a tour of his room and then had a truly wonderful meal at their lovely outside terrace overlooking the square of the picturesque Black Forest village of Staufen. Their house specialty is an enormous (enough for... More

There weren't many restaurants open in the old town center of Staufen, so we chose this one based on the menu (in German) posted outside. It was the perfect choice. We were celebrating a birthday, so we splurged on a bottle of wine and the four-course "Faust Meal." The food was wonderful -- well prepared and beautifully presented -- and... More

Due to an error on my poor translation skills, we ended up ordering a double lunch, and took one home for dinner....but wow! It was the right meal to have duplicated! The first course was a chanterelle mushroom soup, the best I've ever had! The main course was a sampler of local, traditional Black Forest foods. Again, outstanding!

We got to the restaurant late in the day (09.00pm) upon suggestion of a German friend who lives close to Staufen. The kindness and attention of the waitresses were absolutely great (we were 10 people, including small children) and they translated for us the menu (which is written in German only). The food, then, was very well presented and really... More

What a delightful find this restaurant was! It was getting late, and although we sat outside, it became colder quickly. Before we could finish asking to be seated inside, the girl kindly picked up our menus and said we had a lovely table inside. Indeed we did. The interior of this restaurant is beautifully decorated. The food was outstanding. Fresh... More

Every dish at the table was delicious and the staff was most helpful in helping us with the menu which was only in German.

While staying at a conference, we ate dinner out each night. Once we tried the zum Lowen Fauststube, we ate no where else. Each night we tried a different dish, with the expertly translated reading of the menu. Over the course of a week I tried; pumpkin soup, carrot ginger soupl, semolina dumplings in creamy chanterelle sauce, green salad with... More
