Nice suprise

I had passed the restaurant a couple of times and not sure if it was open. On returning from collecting a friend from the airport we were passing by and called in to see if it was open and were lucky as they were quite and thinking of closing for the night. I am glad they didn't as it was... read more

I highly recommend this as one of the best dining experiences I have had in this area over the past 26 years of visiting. We walked in on spec and were treated like honoured guests by the wife of the chef. The food is excellent standard to the point of fine dining but the atmosphere is welcoming and comfortable. The... Wow, lovely setting great service and the food talk for itself. One of the best salad starters ever with the mozarella and green tomatoes, dressing was to die for. We decided to go for the roast platter share, great decision. Good potatoes and excellent green veg but the star was definitely the beef. Not sure how they cook it to... More

My husband and I had lunch here today after purchasing an Itison voucher. We both chose different main courses from a varied menu. I had the Cowshed Burger which was absolutely delicious. One of the best I have tasted. My husband had the Pork Frankfurter which he really enjoyed. The food was well presented while the atmosphere of the restaurant... More

I visited on a busy Saturday evening. The waiting staff I felt were over stretched, another member of staff would have meant the service was as good as the food is . We had a variety of dishes each of them were excellent. Quality ingredients very well used. I will definitely return soon and hope that there are more staff... More

4 members of our family booked for lunch. We each chose different starters and main courses. All were truly delicious. The atmosphere in the restaurant was very relaxed - with beautiful views to the hills beyond, even on a rather dreich afternoon. A lovely experience - and one we'll definitely repeat.

Just back home after a fantastic Sunday lunch at The Cowshed, great service, relaxed setting, and superb food, Sharing platter of roasts was fantastic, quality roasts and the roast potatoes were the best ever. Thanks to Graham for the food and Kevin for the service, next visit already booked.

This is a wonderful restaurant. We stopped for lunch on a Saturday and really enjoyed the linguine dish. Very professional welcome and service... At the end of our week in Ballater, on a gloomy day, we headed there for lunch again, on a Friday, arriving at 14:29, knowing they stopped at 14:30. We were again welcomed, despite cutting it so... We had no booking so walked in hoping to get a table, we were met by a very smart and polite young man who was a most excellent host who quickly got us a table. He was friendly and attentive throughout our meal and made the whole experience very enjoyable. The food was very good, not expensive and good portions.... More
