Nice suprise

I had passed the restaurant a couple of times and not sure if it was open. I visited on a busy Saturday evening. The waiting staff I felt were over stretched, another member of staff would have meant the service was as good as the food is . We had a variety of dishes each of them were excellent. Quality ingredients very well used. I will definitely return soon and hope that there are more staff... More

4 members of our family booked for lunch. We each chose different starters and main courses. All were truly delicious. The atmosphere in the restaurant was very relaxed - with beautiful views to the hills beyond, even on a rather dreich afternoon. A lovely experience - and one we'll definitely repeat.

Just back home after a fantastic Sunday lunch at The Cowshed, great service, relaxed setting, and superb food, Sharing platter of roasts was fantastic, quality roasts and the roast potatoes were the best ever. Thanks to Graham for the food and Kevin for the service, next visit already booked.

This is a wonderful restaurant. We stopped for lunch on a Saturday and really enjoyed the linguine dish. Very professional welcome and service... At the end of our week in Ballater, on a gloomy day, we headed there for lunch again, on a Friday, arriving at 14:29, knowing they stopped at 14:30. We were again welcomed, despite cutting it so... We had no booking so walked in hoping to get a table, we were met by a very smart and polite young man who was a most excellent host who quickly got us a table. He was friendly and attentive throughout our meal and made the whole experience very enjoyable. The food was very good, not expensive and good portions.... More

Came here with high expectations as per general reviews. Starters of smoke salmon was great but our main course of beans of aubergine and the Fish and chips were incredibly poor. Excellent service however but really terrible food for the price.

After getting off to a shaky start ,as there was no-one available to welcome and take us directly to our table, we had a thoroughly enjoyable meal. The interior of the restaurant is spacious and modern, tables are well spaced so you would never be sitting to close to other diners. The view from the restaurant is beautiful, I had... More

I have been to the Cow Shed on four different occasions when we have had family come up to visit. The restaurant itself is in a beautiful location and is very well decorated. For some of the older members of the family they love coming here due to the comfort of the seats and also the large spacing which makes... More

When is a steak pie not a steak pie? When it's a stew with a square of puff pastry placed on top! Very underwhelming. It has the makings of a great venue but seems that the food is style over substance. Shame as I had very high hopes
