Still worth the drive out from the grey, cynical city..

Impromptu late Sunday lunchtime bite for two. No apparent 'front of house' service today - so we just went table and staff hunting. The menu was up to its usual high standard of intrigue. The goat's cheese cheesecake and tasty accompaniments main was a joy - as was the aubergine with pecorino... read more

Fabulous place, large bright open resaurant with wonderful views and outside seating if it's sunny. You can relax on cushion scattered settees or regular tables. Wonderful eats, great coffee, delicious cakes they never disappoint. Try their warm cheesy muffins or their Lusty Lemon slices, I could go on and on. They serve alcohol too and are open all day through... More

Nice tasty lunch. Lots of different options, with plenty to choose from. Bread was nice and you could tell it was homemeade. Beef dish with salad for main, good size. Only negative was the coffee and food took ages to come, maybe just the style they offer. Would go back.

We were looking for somewhere out of town and it wasn't until we were heading towards Banchory that we remembered hearing good things about this place. We had been to the Barn itself previously. We managed to arrive just after the lunch rush so it did start to go quiet but picked up again before we left. My companions really... More

Away and no idea where to go for him on fathers day when we literally found this behind Tescos! Quite unique, makes their own food and beers, wonderful atmosphere, local music, plenty of families of all ages -- they squeezed us in in a corner and looked after us very well. And their bread!! Yum!

Visited recently for an evening meal and while the food was generally good, it was not what I anticipated. This is a vegetarian restaurant with a few meat options as an afterthought. This is not somewhere to come for a steak, burger or anything deep-fried! None of the main courses were anything particular to write home about but the "coastal"... More

We considered this a wonderful find while vacationing in the area. The food was wonderful (mostly salad choices) and plenty of beverage choices. I had the eggplant & chickpea in Thai coconut sauce with salad and my husband the special salad with pulled pork and asparagus. We enjoyed the chef's homemade beer. The restaurant has lots of floor to ceiling... More

We so enjoyed a glass of wine and a brew in the alcoholic sense, in the sunshine, after a lovely walk alongside the River Dee. The choice of food and drinks is impressive. All nicely presented with care and the beers come with their own little label which gives you the ingredients and other details. A nice touch. Very pleasant... More

You can tell a lot about a place with the importance it places on bread. At Buchanan's I sampled the daily special soup of spicy sweet pepper (home made on the premises) and it came with three different types of freshly baked bread (also baked on the premises). It is this attention to detail in both the quality of the... More
