This is a traditional pub in a lovely waterside setting on the edge of Macclesfield forest. Excellent food is served lunchtime and evening. A standard menu is supplemented by a daily "blackboard" of "specials" which features the best of local produce. The pub have a range of traditional ales including guest beers. In the winter real fires warm the stone floored bar area as well as the more formal dining area of the pub. Very popular and booking is essential at weekends. As residents of the area we aware of what the competition has to offer and feel that Leather's Smithy provides excellent food of consistent quality at a very fair price.

Visited this Pub after doing a fantastic walk thro the forest and Teggs Nose, the pub is very nice and the staff were very welcoming, however when we ordered drinks there were only two real ales on offer, and it was Saturday teatime ( four or five pumps available ), to be fair the Adnams was very nice tho a... We have been here a number of times over the years for drinks and meals, food has always been good and plentiful apart from the last meal we had, a sunday roast, very average. The pub is in a superb spot, quiet with good views, usually very busy at weekends most of the year, we normally go midweek and in... More

After a lovely walk round Macc Forest I called in for a beer to be greeted by the grumpiest woman behind the bar. I only had £4 change in my pocket and had to ask how much a beer was. No banter, no welcoming smile, miserable beyond believe! I would return because it's at the end of some lovely walks... More

Nipped up here after work for a quick bite for lunch. Always found the service good, and the staff friendly. The pub was a little cold, despite the nice weather outside. I had the fishcakes off the specials board, with a sweet chilli sauce, chips and salad. was very tasty and just the right portion size for lunch. The menu... More

The food here is very good - with a wide selection on regular menu and specials board. Service leaves a lot to be desired - two members of the staff who did the actual serving of meals were excellent and worked well despite a very busy lunch-time. However, the whole experience spoiled by the grumpy person who took our orders !... More

Warm and friendly welcome to a traditional British pub. The very reasonable Menu and Special's Board were imaginatively composed and did not disappoint. I chose the Wild Boar and Black Pudding which has to rate as one of the best meals I have ever eaten in a Pub/Restaurant. The choice of meals was amazing and I wish that they could... More

Used to come here regularly twenty five years ago when I was working in Macclesfield. Decided to come and see what it was like a couple of years ago and have been back a dozen or so times since. The food and drink has always been excellent in that time, the staff are friendly and attentive and the location is... More

Friendly, welcoming pub with a lovely open fire. It was a Saturday so it was quite busy but we were directed to an available table which was in the window-lovely. We both had gammon and chips, the gammon was the juiciest I've had for a long time, the excellent beer and lager went down very well too! There were quite... More

Called in here for a quick bite to eat one lunch time. Place was busy, and had a cosy atmosphere, it was so chilly outside, so coming into the warmth and a real fire was lovely! We both had sandwiches and chips and a couple to drink. Sat at the bar with our drinks and it was very relaxed and... More
