Description: This is a traditional pub in a lovely waterside setting on the edge of Macclesfield forest. Excellent food is served lunchtime and evening. A standard menu is supplemented by a daily "blackboard" of "specials" which features the best of local produce. The pub have a range of traditional ales including guest beers. In the winter real fires warm the stone floored bar area as well as the more formal dining area of the pub. Very popular and booking is essential at weekends. As residents of the area we aware of what the competition has to offer and feel that Leather's Smithy provides excellent food of consistent quality at a very fair price.

We called in for lunch on New Years Eve and were told it was very busy but they managed to find a space for us. Unlike other places we have visited it really was busy and I can see why. The staff were friendly and efficient, there was a good selection of beer, the meal was simple pub food but... More

We went on Boxing Day with my wife's mother. My wife and mother-in-law would have their roast of the day any time. The meat was tender, and the vegetables were properly cooked, and included broccoli, carrot & swede mash, roast parsnips, mashed and roasted potatoes. I had beer battered haddock with mushy peas and home made chips. The pub was... More

The three of us went for a birthday celebration, no warm welcome. Waited 20+ minutes for any acknowledgement on our orders, in the end went to the bar. Food was poor, pheasant dry as a bone. Empties not cleared, not offered desserts, locals served food before us even when we had been there longer. And we were ready to lock... More

Went on a Saturday evening and everything was top class. The food was delicious we all had specials from a lot of choice on the blackboard which seems to change a lot. Something for everyone. Mains and desserts all good and I loved the home made chips and great selection of vegetables on the side. Service was extremely friendly and... More

Visiting Macclesfield after a few years of absence,we decided to take advantage of the unseasonal weather, and take a nostalgic look at the reservoirs at Langley. To our surprise we found that the area had been transformed by comprehensive walk ways and parking facilities. We took a picturesque circular walk and found ourselves outside the Leather's Smithy pub as it opened... More

Having previously popped in for a drink after scaling the Matterhorn of Cheshire and noticing the specials board, heavy on game. I decided to bring my friend here after watching him prance about like the Deluded Dowager Duchess at Tatton Hall. I opted for the pheasant, slightly dry as can be expected from such a lean bird, however the orange... More

We came across this pub by chance whilst driving round the area. The menu was lovely with game and other delights on the menu. Food was very nice, drinks were lovely. Not a bad price at all. Service could have ben slightly more attentive but we did go on a sunday so it was quite busy. We will visit again... More

We visited on a summer's evening for a meal. The staff were friendly and the meal was tasty, especially the mussels starter, which was one of the best I've eaten for a while. The only thing amiss, on a hot evening, was adequate ventilation. Although a couple of windows were open, it was stuffy and the smell of fried food... More
