A real treat!

Been here twice now, they have a fantastic range of local brews, it's relaxed, not pretentious, and friendly. It's not somewhere to go for an evening meal but they do do food. The first time we went in we had a few platters of meats, breads, cheeses and accompaniments and the quality was great... read more

It's tiny, but the range of beers is fantastic, and the atmosphere is great too. And every Sunday they hold a quiz which is always fun. Get there early though, in order to get a table.

A great little bar, with friendly efficient staff and a community feel. I've never tried the food but hear its tasty and good value. Decent beers and pleasant atmosphere.

we visited whilst on route to a restaurant.... Having seen the food and menu, we will definitely return and eat here.. The setting is not like other places I have been, and is almost like being at home, the staff are very. Friendly... If ur not sure what to drink.... I can highly recommend the fruit beer.

I'm not referring to the size of this fabulous little Belgian styled bar, though it is compact, in every way. The food is clearly homemade and/or locally sourced, and it's of an excellent standard, but it's all a bit small. Might be just me, but a decent bit of grub would really help temper the incredible choice (and strength) of... More

Thanks for the review! We are glad you would recommend us. We used to offer larger platters but so many customers wanted to adjust them 'could I have the xx without the yy, and could I have a bit of extra zz?!' that we thought we would let you build your own perfect meals from out tapas-style selection. We do... More

I went for the "Great Northern pies", which were great that I was not prepared for the truly remarkable selection of beers, over 200 I think! The range of food was quite limited, but nevertheless this was not disappointing - in fact sometimes it can be a good sign. The premises were smaller than I expected and it is not... More

Thank you so much for the 5 star review! We agree with you on the limited menu front - our kitchen is tiny and we believe it is better to do a few simple items well, than try to do too much. We are glad you enjoyed your visit, see you again! More

Great place for a Belgian beer and a pie with all the trimmings. Also great selection of real ales and snacks, friendly staff, good selection of alternatives to pies also. Only gripe is finding a seat not always possible due to lack of space and some prices have crept up somewhat over the past year or so over inflation. I... More

Thanks very much for the 5 star review! Hopefully you will always manage to find a seat, worst case is usually a quick drink at the bar first. As for prices creeping up, we have had to pass on higher suppliers costs (Belgian beers don't come cheap unfortunately) but other than that we monitor everything really closely and many people... Great food, great beer. It is a little on the small side an often there isn't a table available. Would recommend for a pub lunch as the food is homemade.

Thank you so much for the great review. We ought to fess up though, our own kitchen is tiny so whilst there are some things on the menu we do make from scratch, others are made in local kitchens such as 'Great North Pies' (Handforth), 'Flour, Water, Salt' (Macclesfield) and Galore! (Bollington). We try to use local artisan suppliers whereever... More

Have been going since it opened, on and off. Been to the quizzes on Sundays which are good fun. Started going at lunchtime for a cuppa and occasional sandwich - its always quiet which is nice when you have a busy day. Recently went on saturday night. Busy with usual great atmos. Always worth a visit.

I took eight American undergraduates here for lunch after a tour of the Macclesfield Silk Museum. The staff had in fact recommended the Treacle Tap. The pub lunch was really wonderful and enjoyed by all. I had the cheese and onion pie, a real ale and a sticky toffee pudding. The quality was excellent. All the students enjoyed their meals...
