Proper pub, great ales and good food

Popped in for lunch with family after a walk on the Gritstone Trail. A really lovely traditional pub, surprisingly big inside, they even had a real fire going which was welcome on a cold day. Excellent selection of the Bollington Brewery's ales, I plumped for the Oat Mill Stout which was very nice... read more

Firstly, having always enjoyed a nice glass of wine from this pub whilst watching the cricket in the summer we all thought great idea to try to the food! So having booked well in advance we arrived for the staff to promptly tell us there would be a slight delay with service. After waiting over 60 minutes from ordering the... More

We have been twice now following a walk in the Bollington area. Does good food and a choice of a pleasant pint (they have their own brewery) and welcoming staff. Feel better if I have earned the food and drink after a walk. Note weekdays closes at 3 but reopens evenings weekends open longer. Web site available. Well worth a... More

I love the location of this pub, on warm evenings it's very pleasant to sip a pint outside, watching the cricketers practice, very English pastime. I use this pub regularly and am always very satified by the service level, food quality and the range and quality of the beer, especially the Bollington Best brewed by the owners. My only gripe,... I went to this pub with my wife, it was quite busy so the staff offered us two options: waiting at the counter and have a drink to wait for a table or dining at the counter. We chose the first options and we tried three different local produced beers in small 1/3 pint glasses: gosh, they were really good!... More

My son took me to here for a lovely meal on Mothers Day. The beef cobbler was good with plenty of lean beef topped with cheesy scones and the chocolate brownie was hot and gooey, very yummy. Service was great, would definitely recommend

Wow! What a great pub, the way every British pub should be. Craig, the Manager is an excellent host, makes you very welcome and then the "tastes" start. The beer is fantastic, I had 3 different beers all of which were exceptional, the Oatmeal Stout also proved too tempting for my partner. And the food...........so, so tasty and sensibly priced.... The ales here as you would expect are great however so is the food. They use local, fresh produce, the service is great and the atmosphere is always welcoming. Definitely worth a visit.

My husband and I regularly meet up with one of his friends in Bollington & we decided to try the Vale. Glad that we did...I had fish & chunky chips (there were some good vegetarian dishes too), the men choosing 2 different pies. Great- and the own brewed beers, locally brewed lager (from Buxton) & bottle of Malbec (a bit... More

Cracking pub, of that there is no doubt. They brew their own beer here and the range is excellent, the pub is welcoming, there's a fire, shelves of books and friendly staff.....all this makes the grub I got there the more disappointing.....My first choice wasn't available which is always a little disappointing (especially when you're not told til you try...
