I have eaten here a few times as part of a party and i can honestly say im often left feeling underwhelmed by the food and dissapointed with the service i think they are a little on the pricey side also . They tend to run short of the things on the menu frequently leaving a limited choice i did... More

Been here numerous times as it is my other half's family favourite but I can't really warm to it. Don't be put of by the three star rating, this is just my opinion. Give it a try maybe you will like it, it just isn't on my priority list at all. Firstly the staff are great and very attentive probably... More

This year again we celebrated old years night at cafe essence. It really is a joy to visit. The staff were very very welcoming- complimentary glass of fizz before I'd found my glasses and a wonderful menu. I had scallops for starter followed by Dover sole with lobster. Really superb. The menu was the only problem- what to choose! We... More

Went with a friend and not being able to decide between the monkfish and hake we ordered one of each and shared ..amazing fresh fish originally presented and a first class dining experience. Reasonably priced and made more attractive by the possibility to "bring your own ".Book well in advance especially at weekends

Our meal was marred by indifferent and rather clueless service, which was particularly galling in a restaurant where main courses averaged £20. When we arrived one waitress nodded to another, who gestured to our table. She later returned and wordlessly put our wine into a cooler, (its BYO). We were waiting for one person to arrive, however the waitress disappeared... More

Firstly - the food in this restaurant is amazing! We have been going here for years, I went last week with friends, food was a sgood as always, but I was very disapppointed to learn the menu is now all single priced items there is no early bird meal for £12 and no 2 course meal for £22, this I... The worst experience of my trip advising life so far! Always thought this place was a bit overrated but boy has it gone downhill. Very basic setting, like someone's front room, very average overpriced food, but the biggest gripe this time was food with hair's in it served to two of us out of four. After complaining the highly cheeky... More

We have been visiting Café Essence every fortnight for several years and have enjoyed the Early Bird Bistro Menu, being 2 courses for £12.00 with a BYO glass charge of £1.50. However, from the 1st October, this menu has now ceased and a single A La Carte Menu has replaced all menus. There is no Early Bird menu at all... More

I loved this place before- bring your own, fab home baked breads on arrival and I love seafood and any fish so this was the place! Until tonight sooooo disappointed. Arrive to find bread no longer on arrival only with starters £5.50 approx per head. Next 'we are now a la carte' ok so what I thought was the best... More
