The kitchen at the White Swan is focused on doing very little to excellent local ingredients with very rarely more than three flavours on a plate. We make just about everything from scratch in cluding the ketchup and we charge more for it than we would need to if everything came out of a freezer via a microwave. If you are looking for prissy and plastic fine dining then don't expect that here. If you are looking for mountains of cheap food and you don't care where it came from then there are better places to get it.However if you love proper food then I also promise you service from people who are genuinely pleased to be working in our lovely Inn. The AA deems our food good enough for 2 rosettes - and that is without a single smear, smudge or froth in sight. At the other end of the scale, we don't do wrapped butter portions or packets of sauce either (or piped musak). The White Swan was recommendec to us for dinner but it didn't live up to its billing! The starters were fine, but my wife ordered a Ribeye steak cooked rare for her main course which arrived on the well done side of medium, which is not what we expect. We didn't bother with dessert. We pointed out to the waiting... More

This restaurant was not recommended to us or on our radar, but I am so glad we called in. We were warmly welcomed by the staff and our party of 6 were seated with a smile in a beautifully decorated restaurant. The food choice was good although have to say confussion did rain on us re Ginger.... this turns out... More

On a recent midweek trip to Pickering with a friend, we decided to go for dinner at The White Swan. Although the place was very busy, the hostess who greeted us couldn't possibly have been more accommodating. We were welcomed, advised that we may have to wait 30 mins for a table, and offered seating and drinks in a snug... More

We popped in here for lunch on Easter Monday. The bar area was busy but we found a comfortable seat. The service was excellent from the moment we sat down even though they were busy. The menu was varied but not to large. Our sandwiches were tasty and clearly home made. Whilst not cheep the food is worth the money... More

A cool night and a welcoming fire burning in the hearth. Friendly and informative staff who aimed to please. We chose to try the Tuesday night special 'Toad in the Hole' made the Yorkshire way. A generous size that tasted absolutely perfect! I then tried the sticky toffee pudding sweet and thankfully the kitchen was a little heavy handed with... More

Looking for a perfect get away for the night after a manic time in our life when we came across this little gem! We arrived and parked and as we were a little early for check-in we went to explore our surroundings and sample a glass or two of wine. Lovely shops especially the handcrafted chocolatier Mmmm. Check-in we were... More

We had a drink in the very pleasant bar and decided to book a table for dinner later. The welcome for dinner was excellent and staff were very attentive. My partner chose fish and chips which were a little disappointing. I had the belly pork which was excellent. All in all a very nice place for drink and dinner but... More
