The kitchen at the White Swan is focused on doing very little to excellent local ingredients with very rarely more than three flavours on a plate. We make just about everything from scratch in cluding the ketchup and we charge more for it than we would need to if everything came out of a freezer via a microwave. If you are looking for prissy and plastic fine dining then don't expect that here. If you are looking for mountains of cheap food and you don't care where it came from then there are better places to get it.However if you love proper food then I also promise you service from people who are genuinely pleased to be working in our lovely Inn. The AA deems our food good enough for 2 rosettes - and that is without a single smear, smudge or froth in sight. Good food and friendly

Good bistro style food and friendly staff. Also consider the Willowgate Bistro up the hill. There is a decent wine list with a particular leaning to St Emillion where the owner clearly has a love of the wines from this area.

In Woody Allen's 1973 sci-fi comedy Sleeper, 21st-century doctors marveled at how previous generations once avoided fatty foods like 'hot fudge' “Those were thought to be unhealthy,” a doctor said. “Precisely the opposite of what we now know to be true.” And so I found myself eating what could be the greatest chocolate dessert ever made. Rich chocolate cake with... More

We have eaten at The White Swan on a number of occasions previously and, based on those visits, booked again on a recent trip to Pickering despite its more lowly Tripadvisor ranking. Unfortunately, it is unlikely that we shall be booking again on future trips. This is a hotel as well as a restaurant and one cannot help thinking that... More

The White Swan was recommendec to us for dinner but it didn't live up to its billing! The starters were fine, but my wife ordered a Ribeye steak cooked rare for her main course which arrived on the well done side of medium, which is not what we expect. We didn't bother with dessert. We pointed out to the waiting... More

It would seem the menu changes daily at the White Swan. For lunch the choice of mains was a little limited, and so we chose 3 starters, the starters on the menu offering the more interesting selections. They were all really delicious. Reasonably priced. Excellent service, friendly and attentive. Would definitely go back.

This restaurant was not recommended to us or on our radar, but I am so glad we called in. We were warmly welcomed by the staff and our party of 6 were seated with a smile in a beautifully decorated restaurant. The food choice was good although have to say confussion did rain on us re Ginger.... this turns out... More

On a recent midweek trip to Pickering with a friend, we decided to go for dinner at The White Swan. Although the place was very busy, the hostess who greeted us couldn't possibly have been more accommodating. We were welcomed, advised that we may have to wait 30 mins for a table, and offered seating and drinks in a snug... More

We popped in here for lunch on Easter Monday. The bar area was busy but we found a comfortable seat. The service was excellent from the moment we sat down even though they were busy. The menu was varied but not to large. Our sandwiches were tasty and clearly home made. Whilst not cheep the food is worth the money... More
