Great fish restaurant

Eating fresh fish caught that day in a small, cosy restaurant where the tables are not close together, served by friendly, knowledgable staff and fair pricing. What more could you want from a fish restaurant. Excellent.

A very satisfying meal. Nice scallops, well cooked. Fresh fish, simply served with fresh veg and a reasonable wine list. Take Thyme is not fine dining. It is all about fresh fish and veg, well cooked and served with a friendly smile. There are certainly no frozen ingredients used!

Don't go for anything except fish and you won't be disappointed. Great choices and beautifully and imaginatively prepared, reasonably priced too and with nice wine. Charming owner and staff.

Delightful little restaurant that we visited three times during our two week stay in Ilfracombe. The food was all excellent, including the steak, and the service from Tara and Ros was warm, attentive and polite. Whilst probably not the cheapest place to eat in Ilfracombe it isn't the most expensive either but for us it was good value and where... More

We are both Fish lovers. We couldn't get into Relish & our hosts at Marine Court B&B managed to get us a reservation at Take Thyme. We had looked at this restaurant on the previous night before going to La Gendamerie, all seemed good. Now we went there both looking forward to the great fish Ilfracombe has to offer. We... More

Me and my girlfriend were looking for a good restaurant that did local seafood so we booked a table at Take Thyme. We arrived and were shown to our table, we weren't offered a drink and just given the menu, it was 15 minutes until we were finally asked for a drink. I had mackerel and my girlfriend had potted... Dined here twice whilst in Ilfracombe for a week. Despite being a fish restaurant I would recommend the steak.(fish is very good as well!) It was cooked to perfection. My husband has problems with chewing and had not eaten steak for years, this just melted in his mouth. Front of house was very friendly and welcoming

Excellent and interesting host - the food was local (fish) - fresh and well prepared and presented. Friendly and helpful staff - small but excellent quality - you must book in advance.

The menu at Take Thyme is relatively simple - main dishes are based around the fresh fish that is available on the day, each cooked with simple accompaniments, and each with a side of crushed new potatoes and seasonal vegetables or salad. But each part is cooked very well with lots of flavour. I had hake with a very tasty... More

The overall quality of the food is exceptional, with superb fresh fish dishes. I had the John Dory, which was perfect. The sweets were also outstanding - madam loved the Lemon Posset. If there was a criticism, it was about the fine details - the salad garnish for the scallops starter was much too coarse and strongly flavoured; the dipping... More
