Very freindly little restaurant

Dined here twice whilst in Ilfracombe for a week. Despite being a fish restaurant I would recommend the steak.(fish is very good as well!) It was cooked to perfection. My husband has problems with chewing and had not eaten steak for years, this just melted in his mouth. Front of house was very... read more

Me and my girlfriend were looking for a good restaurant that did local seafood so we booked a table at Take Thyme. We arrived and were shown to our table, we weren't offered a drink and just given the menu, it was 15 minutes until we were finally asked for a drink. I had mackerel and my girlfriend had potted... Excellent and interesting host - the food was local (fish) - fresh and well prepared and presented. Friendly and helpful staff - small but excellent quality - you must book in advance.

The menu at Take Thyme is relatively simple - main dishes are based around the fresh fish that is available on the day, each cooked with simple accompaniments, and each with a side of crushed new potatoes and seasonal vegetables or salad. But each part is cooked very well with lots of flavour. I had hake with a very tasty... More

The overall quality of the food is exceptional, with superb fresh fish dishes. I had the John Dory, which was perfect. The sweets were also outstanding - madam loved the Lemon Posset. If there was a criticism, it was about the fine details - the salad garnish for the scallops starter was much too coarse and strongly flavoured; the dipping... More

Take Thyme is a small restaurant, little more than a cafe really. It serves mainly locally caught fish in very nice sauces, although meat dishes were available. I had scallops, followed by a beautiful fresh piece of hake in a tomato, herb and olive sauce. John Dory, Brill, sardines etc were available too. I also enjoyed, pear and rhubarb crumble... More

We went there for my partners 30th while on holiday in Combe. Lovely restaurant excellent food good prices. Tara the owner was bar manager and waitress as her waitress didn't turn up, she was very busy but still attentive to our needs and kept a smile on her face throughout. Fish caught locally and not farmed so very fresh. We... More

Small very friendly restaurant serving the freshest, most beautifully cooked and interesting locally caught fish, together with local produce from the surrounding Devon farms. Deserves a much wider audience than it can cater for, but that might spoil the secret ! We will definitely be visiting again to sample the delights of fresh fish cuisine.

Dropped in late on Sunday evening hoping for a table. We were greeted warmly and made comfortable. The fish dishes were excellent, I had the mussels, which I can honestly say were the very best I have had, either in the UK or overseas. My husband had Hake which was cooked to perfection. The food was really fresh, beautifully cooked,... More
