I had a latte and a slice of banana cake. The latte was fine, but not as large as in some other places, and the banana cake was a reasonable size and also fine. However, the total price was £4.90 (yes - £4.90). In comparison:- a larger latte and a large Eccles cake at the cafe at Port Erin station... More

Had the queenies which were delicious - as recommended by brother from previous visit. Just a tad too much butter on the new potatoes though. Waiting staff could do with a little more training to interact with customers as they were very young. Limited drinks choices. Lounge and toilets (ladies) clean but tired. Clearly waiting for new buyer as business... More

This was a treat, a day out for my granddaughters birthday. Firstly it looked a bit shabby but we went there years ago and the food was lovely. The food took forever, it was badly presented and very greasy. We left most of our meals as they were so bad. The meals cost on average £11 per person and were... More

Recently travelled to the island to visit family and did my yearly visit to the Viking. Atmosphere was great, loved the new wood burner which made the lounge bar nice and cosy. I had the smoothered chicken and my husband had the 12oz ribeye steak, both fabulous meals with the usual amazing homemade chips! Always nice to see a friendly... More

I've been eating at the Viking for many years. A decade ago, it was one of the best pub-restaurants on the south coast of the Isle of Man. Gradually (following a change of ownership) it began to slide downhill. I think it must now be on the point of final collapse. Here is an account of my experience there when... More

The Viking used to be my hostelry of choice when in Castletown; however, over the last few years, things have sadly declined. The food has always been the big draw for me, and while it is still perfectly edible, the quantity on the plate far exceeds the quality. Prices have also steadily risen, and, for what is essentially bar food,... More

Thought it was about time to try the Viking, so stopped off mid week for lunch. The pub was very quiet but the bar man was very friendly, so food and drinks ordered. I went for the Ham,egg & chips and the wife had the chicken breast wrapped in bacon with cheese & chips and the food was delicious and... More

Went on a Sunday night, should have known when it was nearly empty that we might not be getting the best experience, despite very few people in had to wait an hour for our food, told I could not have salad with my chicken as they had run out given vegetables which were cold. The two medium rare steaks were... More

When we sat down at our table, we ordered drinks. The landlord then came over with a menu and told us what they didn't have available, as it had been busy that day. I'm vegetarian and there was no vegetarian options on the menu at all. Luckily I eat fish, however the fish and chips and fish goujons weren't available... More
