Great food, little atmosphere

The food is excellent with freshly prepared dishes and daily specials. However, a memorable meal is however more than the quality of the food. Whilst the service was fine we found the décor decidedly odd being a mix of 5 high sided booths and a row of tables that combined to create a restaurant... read more

From the reviews we'd read, we were expecting much, much more ! Overall, underwhelming and 'flatters to deceive'...? The environment is dated and definitely needs freshening up. So...the food ? The starters were good albeit the crab and prawn cocktail would have benefited from much more sauce. The steak was good but at £29 was seriously overpriced for what it... More

A fairly quiet, off peak season visit to Douglas showed that the locals are totally spoilt when it comes to good food. A visit to MacFarlanes proved that a good eating house will always be full, We didn't managed Friday evening but were lucky enough to get a table early evening on the Saturday. Make sure you book well in... More

There are a surprisingly number of good restaurants on the island but MacFarlane's may be the best. Fantastic wine list. Started with a blu cheese souffle which was great and a seafood medley that was done perfectly.

I eat here often for lunch (Thurs & Fri only). Everything I have eaten here has been superbly cooked by the owner/chef and very fresh.I know they try to source as many of their ingredients locally which I love. Service is always perfect as well. There is only one thing I am not crazy about and that is covering on... More

This is a family run restaurant, it was clean, reasonable ambiance, but the food was great !! (we went in because of the Michelin stars in window, and we were not disappointed, we would def go again, and highly recommend the place! .

Was here in mid-Februrary 2015 on a Friday evening - during my first visit to the IoM since I was a child. Food was truly exceptional. One of the most enjoyable meals I can ever remember having. The 'Crab, Prawn and Lobster Thermidor Tartlet' starter was so good I dreaded my last mouthful of it! My 'Manx Calves Liver' main... More

Was difficult getting a table and imagined the demand reflected the dining experience. However, was disappointed: food was just ok, service nothing special and quite slow and it felt devoid of any atmosphere. Noisy and too bright as well. Still haven't found anywhere that beats 14 North on the Quay restaurant.

Our expectations were high as this was our first visit and we weren't disappointed. Nice little restaurant with great staff and great service. We dined on carpaccio of beef and soufflé for starters. Lamb shoulder and plaice for mains whilst we both had creme brûlée for desert. All washed down with sparkling rose and then dessert wine. The food was... More

We were given a voucher for this restaurant as a Xmas present. Went with friends to celebrate my husband's birthday. It was very quiet when we arrived but soon got busy. Starters good, crab cakes delicious. We all went for the turbot as a main course, a very good choice. Will be going back for sure.
