New Year Delight

We went in here on the Sunday night between Christmas and New Year. It was very quiet which was such a shame, that's my only negative comment - lack of atmosphere/buzz! Food was absolutely superb. Starters of baked crab and a rabbit terrine were delicious followed by an fantastic bouillabaisse... read more

Went to the HIllside Bistro for New Year's Eve. I had been looking forward to a number of dishes that had been advertised as part of a six course meal on its website, so was somewhat disappointed to find 75% of the menu had changed. I felt conned seeing as we'd had to pay a deposit and what had been... More

The food is good here, really nice so much is homegrown up the hill and the fish caught right in Ventnor bay. The "open kitchen" doesn't work for me, the chef's so tucked away at the back you don't see home at work, but you get disturbed by the dishwashing of your plates. Happy with the service otherwise. Expensive.

We have just been to The Hillside Bistro for a NYE 5 course dinner. Advertised on the Internet for £62 per person with a specific menu. However when we got there the menu was significantly different and the price was £65 per person. Disappointing as all of us had been looking forward to items that were now no longer on... More

We had our 2014 Christmas lunch at the Hillside Bistro and the experience was very good! The food was excellently prepared and full of good flavour, the service was also of a very high standard which meant we had a relaxed Christmas lunch experience. The roast potatoes were great and the lemon sorbet with limoncello served between starter and main... More

Lovely food. Very fresh especially the squid. Friendly service and good wines by the glass. The restaurant was quiet on a Sunday night

Just had lunch in the Bistro, it has driven me to write my first ever review.....We had to wait over an hour for our lunch to appear ...apparently there was some sort of problem but there were only 3 tables (6 customers in total) and 3 staff (two waiters standing about watching the chef). They never bothered informing us of... More

6 of us went for evening meal, every course was fresh and tasty, the fish in particular is highly recommend as was the creme brûlée desert. 3courses 2 bottles of wine @ £35-00 per head is value you money.

Went with my wife for 5 course (set menu) Sunday lunch, food was elegantly presented, with a well balanced mix of flavours and textures. We had a couple of glasses of the house white which was perfectly palatable. The setting is somewhat minimalist ( Scandinavian) with a limited number of tables, Service was prompt and efficient, price was very reasonable... More
