Looking for a meal in Shanklin at 9.30 p.m. on a rainy Wednesday night, most of the other establishments in the town had already stopped serving! At The Black Cat they were welcoming, and produced freshly cooked authentic food, made to our individual "spiciness" preferences. There was a good range of vegetarian options and the vegetables in batter were cooked... More

My partner and me have just returned home from a wonderful weeks holiday on the IOW, we always try and mix up the different cuisine of foods when away and re-visited the “Black Cat” Thai restaurant on a rainy Monday evening in early august, as always the restaurant was busy with both locals and tourists. We both shared the “Malay... More

What a find! This was a lovely Thai restaurant with very authentic decor and polite and courteous staff who were not over attentive but efficient in their service. We had a delicious meal of chicken satay with a delicious peanut sauce and vegetables in a delicate batter with a tasty dip. Our main consisted of a stir fried prawns dish,... More

Family run (?) Thai restaurant. The food and service were excellent and certainly made up for our isolated table towards the rear of the restaurant. This did however provide a good view of the kitchen.

When I look for places to eat on Tripadvisor all I'm looking for is the quality if the food. Yes, the decor is unorthodox and the staff were quite casual (however, not uncaring or inattentive) but the food was fantastic! Loved the veg tempura (not too much batter) and really enjoyed the Thai red and massaman curries!

The restaurant was very busy, we hadn't booked a table, they did fit us in but from the service we received I wish they had turned us away. We had to ask for everything, drinks, prawn crackers - other tables were given these automatically, we even had to ask to order. The food was average, I have had much better... More

Our experience started badly when the waitress plonked down the wine onto the table and just walked off again, we had a half hour wait for our starter and then another twenty minutes after that for our main. The waitress took the fork off of my plate from the starter when clearing the plates and put it back on my... More

Little bit cramped at the table, but it was beautifully decorated .The staff seemed a bit tired, I'm sorry to say this but if we'd had a warmer greeting it would have been better. Food was superb, though portions bit small for some in the group. They offer 'mild', 'medium', 'hot', or 'very hot' curry. I'm gald I had medium,... More

We booked at the Black Cat for a special 50th Birthday meal on Monday 4 August, first of all impressions were good, but then everything became a disaster, we ordered our meals by a very old English chap, which was the owner who had trouble taking our order on his new order devise and we had to repeat the order...
