Description: We’re proper cooks, serving real British food, cooked properly. We don’t mess around with our food. We cook it simply, without flashy sauces, so the quality of the ingredients speak for themselves. The ingredients that go into our kitchen come from local farms and suppliers, some of whom we’ve known for years, like Joe Simpson of Cockfield, who rears, slaughters and butchers his own beef, Ian Alexander of Raby Estates with his fantastic venison and Carol Peacock from Sedgefield who makes world-beating blue cheese. Our veg comes from the local markets and our recipes are based on real British dishes with heritage.

I bought a groupon voucher for afternoon tea and was so looking forward to i took my 15 year old niece who enjoys her food. The groupon picture looked really good, but we received pork pies & scotch eggs that looked liked they had bought them from a supermarket plus 2 small buns with salmon on which were ok ,... More

I notice another customer has raised the point about the high service charges at this restaurant. We had to ask three times for our water and the restaurant was not over busy. The food was OK but not anything special and at the end they slapped a 12.5% service charge on the bill. Of course you don't have to pay... More

Never having been north of Wakefield before, I visited Durham with my wife/housekeeper a few nights ago and what a city it is, the cathedral is breathtaking, the castle is a sight to behold and the river, well that was brown and wet what can I say. We visited Oldfields on recommendation of a local artist. For starters I had... More

Food is ok, not as good as a few years ago. My biggest gripe with this place is the automatic service charge. Really puts me off. I tip at restaurants 95% of the time but I will not be dictated to that I have to. Granted you have the option not to pay the service charge but why antagonise your... More

Been a few times and has always been good food. You can sometimes get good offers to eat here. It is right in the centre of Durham near Gala theatre.

We very much enjoyed our meal at Oldfields. We were hesitant, since reviews are mixed, but for us this restaurant cannot be faulted.

I really recommend this restaurant, if I lived in Durham I would be there all the time. The staff were lovely, the menu is really good, the restaurant itself has loads of character, and the food was fantastic. If I go back to Durham I'll definitely be going again!

This restaurant is amazing. We ate from the set menu - I had the black pudding for my starter and the battered mackerel for my main. Both dishes were delicious. The service was fantastic - the waiters and waitresses were very friendly and helpful. The restaurant is big and airey and upon leaving we were given discount vouchers for future... More

My family and I have eaten in Oldfields several times in the last few weeks. The food was excellent and the service exemplary. On 1 occasion we had our 5 yr old and 10 month old grandchildren with us and the waitress couldn't have been more attentive. They even made the baby a special meal, I couldn't have asked for... More
