Description: We’re proper cooks, serving real British food, cooked properly. We don’t mess around with our food. We cook it simply, without flashy sauces, so the quality of the ingredients speak for themselves. The ingredients that go into our kitchen come from local farms and suppliers, some of whom we’ve known for years, like Joe Simpson of Cockfield, who rears, slaughters and butchers his own beef, Ian Alexander of Raby Estates with his fantastic venison and Carol Peacock from Sedgefield who makes world-beating blue cheese. Our veg comes from the local markets and our recipes are based on real British dishes with heritage.

We continue to try here to see if it gets any better but sadly not! We decided to go for an evening meal rather than the early bird or lunch specials that are anything but, and frankly wished I hadn't bothered, it started ok with an enthusiastic greeting but then just got pointed to a table with "that is yours"... Where do I begin, I have eaten here four times and it gets worse each time. First time, had a living social deal, and this was good i must admit, so when the offer came on again I bought another one. Meanwhile I went again with my friend who is 82, we met after work and looked at the early... More

I bought a LivingSocial deal for 4 people while ago but hadn't followed up on it as some of the reviews I read were very mixed, although I refer to find out for myself. Anyway took the plunge and booked a table. It didn't state so on the voucher but they only took bookings after 8pm if you had a... More

Hi, Thank you for your review. Our living social promotion times should have been clearly stated at the time of purchase. I have contacted the company in case this was not the case. Also under the section headed "fine Print" on the voucher itself. I can only apologise if you missed it. With regards to waiting times for meal, Every... More

We visited for evening meal Sunday night. The restaurant was very busy and understaffed and we were informed later that this was totally unexpected busy evening. There was one pleasant young man who was responsible for bar, bills and directing other 2 young waiters who were like rabbits in the headlights, they were trying their best but seemed over whelmed by... The food was delicious and the menu was interesting. We didn't book and they got us in on a busy Saturday night. The service was friendly, but started out a little bit slow. We had cheese to finish and it really was excellent (and at room temperature!). The only problem was there was a fusty smell in the restaurant (I... More
