We’re proper cooks, serving real British food, cooked properly. We don’t mess around with our food. We cook it simply, without flashy sauces, so the quality of the ingredients speak for themselves. The ingredients that go into our kitchen come from local farms and suppliers, some of whom we’ve known for years, like Joe Simpson of Cockfield, who rears, slaughters and butchers his own beef, Ian Alexander of Raby Estates with his fantastic venison and Carol Peacock from Sedgefield who makes world-beating blue cheese. Our veg comes from the local markets and our recipes are based on real British dishes with heritage.

Excellent staff

We used a Groupon voucher and had an excellent 2 course dinner with wine. I feel I must mention Kieran, our waiter, who was knowledgable, friendly and very attentive. Well worth a visit

Not much to say for this little gem. Beautiful food and a real great restaurant in the centre of Durham! Very happy and will definitely return.

When I called in the lovely waitress instantly told me my tastecard was valid. I ordered a steak that on the menu, said it was cooked medium. It was barely even rare, swimming in blood and very tough to cut no doubt as it wasn't cooked as described. The chips were lovely however and I can see the place having... More

One of my favourites in durham serving traditional British classics. Locally sourced and allergy-concious mean Oldfields is a favourite of mine

We had Sunday lunch using a Tastecard and got 50% off the good, which was great but it's good value without. Much more expensive in the week and not affordable for most. Food portions were very good and the lunch was delicious. Expected a jazz band based on the website but there wasn't one.

After reading many poor reviews I was dubious trying this place after buying a deal from Groupon. I can honestly say our experience was fantastic. As a group of four we all had different things off the menu which were all very fresh, ingredients that were in season and very filling! Myself, I got the cod parcel and it was... More

Found the menu very strange, wouldn't dream of eating a bunny rabbit. I am not a fussy eater but struggled to chose. I went for a pork steak, with a mash and jus lie. Tasted nice but not outstanding. My hubbie ordered a cheeseboard. £7.95 ( I think) what a rip off!! 3 very thin slices of cheese, that couldn't... More
