We’re proper cooks, serving real British food, cooked properly. We don’t mess around with our food. We cook it simply, without flashy sauces, so the quality of the ingredients speak for themselves. The ingredients that go into our kitchen come from local farms and suppliers, some of whom we’ve known for years, like Joe Simpson of Cockfield, who rears, slaughters and butchers his own beef, Ian Alexander of Raby Estates with his fantastic venison and Carol Peacock from Sedgefield who makes world-beating blue cheese. Our veg comes from the local markets and our recipes are based on real British dishes with heritage.

The food is seriously overpriced and very poor quality. One of our party found their starter so bad that it was inedible and had to be sentback. A 12.5 % service is levied automatically and was not acceptable as standard of food was so poor. Having said that the staff were lovely and tried to make up for the poor... More

Most restaurants in Durham are chains so this is a welcome venue with a different brand and menu. The prices are not out of this world and reflect the quality of the produce and cuisine. The restaurant is very pleasant, with a busy relaxed atmosphere and the young staff are great, very genuine and caring. We stayed in the city... More

Good location in Durham. Food nice although sometimes not enough choice on the menu, can be expensive but if on Groupon even better value. Gets really busy so book well in advance.

We went to celebrate a family birthday on a friday evening. The resturant was very busy with a large party upstairs. We ordered about 8.15 and received our starter about an hour or so later. The staff were very apologetic and we were given free drinks. The food when it arrived was lovelly - shame we had to wait so... More

My mam and I had a voucher for Afternoon Tea at Oldfields. Whilst the food was nice enough, personally we are not keen on sandwiches cut into strips like soldiers that you dipped into your boiled egg as a child. Also there was not enough balance between sweet and savoury - too much sweet. The portions were very dainty which... More

The food was excellent without a doubt. Service was ok neither really good or really poor. Prices are a bit steep so if you are on a super tight budget, likely this will bust it. Easy to find location.

so dissapointed when we went to oldfields saturday lunch when i had high expectations. considering only 2 tables we waited near an hour for starters. seemed they were only bothered to get ready for valentines night. my slow braised shin beef was like any normal stewing steak casserole. terribly dissapointing. in defence my husbands soup then mussels were excellent

We had a beautiful, relaxed Sunday lunch here today. The service was very friendly, the food was of a high quality, particularly the roast beef and the roast pork, and the the jazz band playing at the just the right level, created a lovely atmosphere. We will definitely return.

I received afternoon tea for a Christmas present and have to say I was very disappointed. We wasn't asked about any dietary requirements and the food came straight away so couldn't pass this on. The waitress told us she didn't know what anything was and she was just told to take it to the table. The scones were rock hard... More
