We’re proper cooks, serving real British food, cooked properly. We don’t mess around with our food. We cook it simply, without flashy sauces, so the quality of the ingredients speak for themselves. The ingredients that go into our kitchen come from local farms and suppliers, some of whom we’ve known for years, like Joe Simpson of Cockfield, who rears, slaughters and butchers his own beef, Ian Alexander of Raby Estates with his fantastic venison and Carol Peacock from Sedgefield who makes world-beating blue cheese. Our veg comes from the local markets and our recipes are based on real British dishes with heritage.

Tasty meal

We dined from the early evening set menu, which was great value and decent portions. Our starters, beef stew with yorkshire pudding main and the sticky toffee pudding were delicious.

We last ate here about 10 years ago when we celebrated my daughter's graduation from Durham University. This time we were on an overnight stay in Durham so it seemed an obvious choice. The restaurant is now a bit more middle of the road, offering good value fayre at reasonable prices especially if you eat on one of their deals.... More

Food nice enough but not outstanding. Quite small portions. Service slow and they weren't very busy. We were given an A4 photocopied menu which we thought was the 'specials' and when we asked for the main menu we were told 'that was the menu'. Not a very impressive menu to say the least. A large poster in the window stated... More

We shared a graduation meal here as a party of three, choosing Oldfield's due to the importance of the event. Despite being a busy evening, we made the right choice! We were made to feel special by the owner/manager, but all of the staff were absolutely first class with honours

I treated a friend to a Groupon afternoon tea here. There didn't look to be too much food on the plate initially but there was just enough and everything was really delicious. We thoroughly enjoyed it and it was very good value. I also had a glass of sparkling with mine. Would recommend!

After visiting several times ourselves, we took old friends who had never eaten out in Dufham. They were extremely pleased with the meal. In fact one said his soup was the best he had tasted. His only criticism was it was slightly too cool. All food is local. The men were pleased with the local real ale whilst we ladies... More

We visited on a Friday night using a Groupon voucher. We had pre booked , but there were a few tables empty when we arrived and throughout our stay. The staff were lovely and friendly and very polite. We were on a set menu because of the voucher, however we noticed in the window that they had an offer on... More
