Good food, an amusing and heartwarming experience

Lovely fish and chips but they'd run out of mushy peas. A disaster, like Newcastle United without Shearer! We made a bit of a joke about it with the waiter which must have amused a gentleman who was eating on his own. He left shortly before us after which the waiter told us the gentleman had paid... read more

Not cheap, but generous servings of fish and chips cooked to perfection in beef dripping. Something of an indulgence to be savoured occasionally but well worth it! They also do a slightly smaller portion as a pensioner's special which is more than adequate. The restaurant looks quite small from the outside but there is plenty of comfortable seating upstairs and... More

My husband and I stumbled across this chippie whilst wandering through Durham. We had 2 fish and chips and OMG, the flavour of the beef dripping it was cooked in was AMAZINGLY tasty. Reasonably priced and a steady flow of customers in the takeaway part. I don't think we lifted our heads or spoke to each other whilst enjoying our... More

Fish and chips is one of my favorite British meals and this place serves them up hot, crispy on the outside, tender on the inside! Their chips are crispy too! Bells came highly recommended and I'm glad I gave them a try.

The location finder on my mobile took me to a slightly wrong location, which which I could not see Bell's, but the fish and chips fragrance led me there. It was neither crowded nor empty, and the friendly staff made me feel welcome. The menu was limited mainly to traditional items - a good sign. The fishcake and chips I... More

i had been recommended this restaurant by a friend. It was great, had a bit of a wait due to busy day but worth it.The fish was delicious, hot crispy chips and lovely tarter sauce. The only issue that there was too much, needed no evening meal later. Staff very polite.Food well presented. Will be coming back that's for sure.

We have always enjoyed our meals in Bells. The usual, quite reliable, fish and chips. Not at all bad when compared to other offerings in busy Durham.

In need of proper fish and chips, we tried Bells and enjoyed it. The fish was very fresh--flaky and moist. I got an enormous fillet of cod and chips for under £9. The chips were excellent--crisp on the outside and creamy on the inside. They were great with a side of mushy peas. Some very good tartar sauce was a... More
