I regularly visit treats many times a week, after today I shall not be visiting again. The new owners customer service is horrendous, when showing her the hairs that me and my sister found in our meals her reply was 'it's just one of those things' she then went on to say that we would get a full refund to... We've been here twice now; once for savoury (lunch) in May and once for cakes this afternoon. Both times the food was fantastic. Great size portions and the cakes are some of the best we've ever had in a tea room. Nice friendly staff and a good atmosphere. The waitress even offered to heat the milk for my white coffee... More

I got asked by a member called Daniel to re write as he was blamed for it so for record I did it and I am from Newcastle! I currently read previous postings and they echoed my thoughts and as... Treats used to be a place where customers were made to feel at home, where there was always a lively and happy crowd, where you'd often find every table occupied, where people did not mind having to queue on the stairs for a seat, where the menu was deliciously varied, where portions were ample, and where the owner would urge... This once buzzing, friendly coffee shop has been taken over. Usually the phrase "Under new management" is a promising sign - unfortunately, not in this case. I recently move to the Durham area and decided to visit this coffee shop based on the rave reviews it had gained on TripAdvisor. I instantly fell in love with it! It is the... More

Called in for breakfast three times last week and the portion sizes were exceptional value for money. Even though there has been recent change in ownership the atmosphere and ambiance remains enjoyable and portion sizes still sufficient and for me treats remains the best value cafe in town.

A little doorway and steep climb up the stairs bring you to Treats. Not quite what we expected as there are no menus on the table and you have to select from the blackboards above the counter and then queue up while at least 3 people try and take orders at the same time. It was packed and a little... More

The best cafe in Durham and I am stingy and hard to please. Very cheap, massive portions, very tasty and great value for money. If you're doing the miners gala thing just take up a window seat in there, eat cake all day, look at the art and enjoy the procession go past. Staff are always very helpful, willing to... More

I don't visit Durham too often but each time I do I always look forward to having lunch in Treats having been told about it by a friend. The food is always of good quality, with generous portions and very reasonably priced. For such a small place the choice of food is excellent and on my last visit I discovered... More
