I used to loooove the Head of Steam. You would be served by staff who were friendly, knowledgeable in beers and helpful. Now you have a lot of new staff members and they are unfriendly and act as if you are interrupting their continuous chat behind the bar when you need to order something. They also have no idea about... More

Excellent selection of beers, good music, great atmosphere & great staff, had a fabulous time. It's always on our list to visit. Even better in the summer.

lots of beer selections and they rotate the inventory. good classic rock playing through a nice stereo system. comfortable seating. definitely stick to the beer though. they had a cocktail menu, but neither bartender seemed to know how to make a proper drink. but it's my fault for ordering something other than beer, which is why you'd come to this... I can have no complaints about the food or drink. The place does what it says on the tin. However the staff were not the most hospitable and the noise levels unbearable. The louder the clientelle got the higher the volume levels on the sound system. Not a great experience.

A great venue for all beer drinkers where a host of international ales are available for tasting! Good pub grub also available in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere.

I usually visit the Head of Steam whenever I am in Durham for a pre-train meal and drink. The food is tasty and good value, especially the pizzas which are reduced to £4 in the early evening during the week. The beer selection is excellent, ranging from cheap Real Ales to pricey, but very tasty American and Belgian bottles.

Me and my boyfriend went on a day trip to Durham and decided to have dinner and a few drinks here, we both had a burger which was HUGE and totally delicious, and they had such a vast selection of beers and ales and ciders etc etc which is great for us! I would totally recommend going here, it has... More

Really friendly bar with nice staff and a great selection of beers and ciders. The food is excellent - the Sunday roast is huge and there's an great range of burgers and pizzas available on other days. Our new favourite place to eat and drink in durham.
