Excellent, tucked away. Probably the best real pub in Durham. Good food, drinks great, staff were really nice. Fit for all clientele . Can't wait to go back!! 5 star .

The pub has a good atmosphere with a range of specialist beers. Good food is served. The pub is kind of hidden up an alley but seems to be popular with local people. If you want a different kind of pub this is great.

Visited after a day out in Durham and so pleased we did, great location, nice decor and the most important part was the beer available! We will be back.

A regular haunt for us! Huge selection of beers and ciders from all over the world. The pizzas are delicious thin crust pair them with the excellent hand cut chips and you've got a meal for four. Well worth a visit if in Durham...or Newcastle

This is the second time we've visited here in a short period and the down to earth honesty of the place is still striking. Imagine an old fashioned real ale pub designed for students and us oldies alike and you've got it in a nutshell. Food is hearty, honest and very reasonably priced. You'll leave here satisfied and relaxed without... More

Love this place. The cocktails are lovely and the staff are very friendly. There's also a great select of foreign beers. There's always a great atmosphere and they play good music too. Not eaten here yet but the food that I've seen looks nice. It's great in the summer as has a cool balcony

Awesome beer, friendly staff and the food was just... missing. I don't expect a kitchen to close before 9-10, too bad we had to leave to get food at another place.

My friends and I decided to visit Head of Steam in Durham for some food for dinner and a chance to catch up. Having never even noticed that there was a pub tucked out the way but being aware of Head of Steam in Newcastle, I was eagerly anticipating having some good food in a lively atmosphere.
