This is the best pub in durham, the food is fantastic, excellent range of beers and spirits and ALL of the bar staff are friendly and always a pleasure to talk to. I have seen nothing but friendliness from all of the staff and I always feel welcome, We have even had two xmas parties at the head of steam... More

This is a great pup hidden away in durham, we always like to head here for a great selection of drinks you wouldn't normally find at very reasonable prices. Another great thing about this pub is the food. Having eaten here a few times now we have never been disappointed. The selection on the menu is good and food is... More

WAS a great pub. we have been going there every 2 weeks for the past 2 years. we were there on the 05/07/14 at lunch time and then again at teatime as we normally do, spending a lot of money between 4 couples, on this occasion we were celebrating my 45th birthday and had 2 balloons which we burst on... Called in for a beer. £1 more than 20 yards away?? Sub standard but drinkable. Staff friendly but cleanliness leaves a little to be desired.

We just spent most of the day in this pub, and it was brilliant. An amazing selection of Belgian beers, American craft beers and a small but quality selection of real ales. The food is also very tasty and good value. To top it all the staff were all friendly and knowledgeable about the products on sale. I can't recommend... More

If you love your beer then this is the pub for you!! Loads of choice and foreign beers as well. The cibbatas two for £8 are excellent value and one between two people would probably surfice depending on how hungry you are. Would recommend this place for all connisuers of beer.

The Head of Steam usually serves decent food, offers make the food good value for money, but its usually of satisfying quality either way. They also feature a nice and varied range of beers from around Europe. Its not the cheapest pub in Durham but it offers quality and variety.

On one of the few gorgeous days in Durham, there are a few great places to sit outside and enjoy the day. Head of Steam is one of our favs, not for the scenery but for the beer. We often come here, but the quality of the food needs some serious reevaluation as competition begins to ramp up in Durham... More
