I have driven past this restaurant literally hundreds of time and always though that authentic Spanish could never exist in Durham but how wrong can a man be????????? As an anniversary treat my sister and her boyfriend suggested a night at The El Coto and so a table was booked for 4 on a Saturday night that was to turn... More

It was difficult to rate this restaurant as it falls somewhere between average and very good - the ambience is lovely, the restaurant looks tiny from the outside but it's quite the tardis. The service was provided by Spanish speaking servers - who were lovely & polite but got a little stuck on their English at times - however as... More

I was visiting my fiend in Durham, she recommended trying el cotto. So me and my friend ordered the set menu, which have you a wide selection of tapas. Lamb meatball in a spicy tomato sauce, potato braves, garlic pork dish etc. Food was Ok, wasn't the best, service was very lacking. As we were sat upstairs and there were... More

I adore tapas and was very impressed with El Coto. Nice atmosphere and decoration, giving a nice authentic feel to the place. Our waitress was the same woman throughout the evening and was very friendly and helpful. We were blown away by the extensive menu and it was very difficult to choose! We decided on six tapas and asked the... More

This is a nice restaurant with decent tapas. All the dishes I had were good apart from Garbanzos that were very sweet, too much sugar. I sent them back without any problems and received a paella instead that was fine. The wine selection was pleasing and the service was friendly and attentive. I'd recommend here and return if I was... More

The exterior of this restaurant did not inspire confidence however the food was hot, flavoursome and served reasonably quickly, with the exception of the cured meat which was a bit dried around the edges. The other 9 dishes we had were of a much higher standard especially the tenderloin pork and the chicken skewer. The dining experience was let down... More

A great meal at El Coto for our anniversary. Nice atmosphere, great selection of dishes which tasted delicious. Staff were friendly. Tapas came thick and fast, if anything they could have came a bit slower. Both glad we chose El Coto.

El coto is a small restaurant in what appears to be the middle of a residential area, run by all Spanish staff who were very nice and helpful. We were seated on a table for two but as the dishes kept arriving we were asked if we would like to move to a bigger table, which we thought was very... More
