Stylish, friendly, delicious

Visited as a group, with wide range of ages, tastes, and expectations. Restaurant is in beautiful old house, food is classic British with generous servings, stylishly served by attentive and professional staff. Overall, best place I've eaten in in Durham.

This is our sixth visit, each time we have had the set three course menu, always excellent. Can't fault it at all. We also bought five gift vouchers for family gifts and they report the same good experiences. It is nice to visit a modern restaurant with an old fashioned service, atmosphere, decor and above all first class food and... More

I took my daughter here for dinner as a treat. It was easy to find, the tables looked smart and the staff were friendly. We both ordered mussels for starters and they were delicious - large and succulent and sourced from the Shetland islands. Thereafter the meal went downhill. I ordered mushroom risotto which was so salty left most of... More

I have now been to Finbarr's a few times and can honestly say I have been very happy with all aspects of the restaurant. The staff were very nice, polite and the service they provided was exceptional. The food is fantastic and you will not be let down by the quality and the quantity. The price is also very reasonable.... More

We visited Finbarrs once again on Thursday 4th February for lunch. Over the six years it has been open we have enjoyed a consistency of high quality food and service, second to none. The staff and the service they provide manage to combine a personal yet professional presentation, in a cheerful manner. The food is always of very high quality,... More

Visited Finbarrs for evening meal whilst visiting Durham. Menu was interesting with many lovely options. I chose a first course of pork and pistachio terrine served with toast followed by second course of hake served with a chorizo, tomato and chickpea stew. I was served bread and olives before food arrived but was disapponted with the bread selection - looked... More

Visited here for an early birthday meal with the folks, everything about the visit was fantastic. From arriving everything was spot on, a quick drink in the bar beforehand whilst our table was being prepared and it just got better. Everyone enjoyed their food - my rib eye steak was sublime and 5 empty plates was testament to this. All... More

Excellent meal, good wine, friendly service and a relaxed yet professional atmosphere. My cousin from the "Home Counties" was very impressed.........it's not all grim up North. Finbarr's goes from strength to strength. Long may it continue.

We booked a table on a lunchtime intending to try the a la carte menu. We arrived slightly early and were told our table was not ready. We asked if we could wait in the bar until it was and were told "if you want". We proceeded to wait in the bar for more than half-an-hour well past our booked... More
