Having heard great things from the local community, along with positive reviews online I decided a visit to Finbarrs was very much needed. I guided to me seat by the maître de and immediately asked "What do you want". He'd clearly spied I'd arrived earlier and was pondering the menu in the bar, thus assuming I was ready to order.... As the title suggests we found Finbarrs to be unpretentious, elegant and friendly. This was a special occasion (my birthday) so we wanted something a little special and we got it. For the starter we shared the charcuterie which had wonderful cold meats with pickles and mustard. Thought the pork with pistachio was inspired and we accompanied this with a... More

I have been twice and on both occasions we have had a wonderful meal. Really good menu - something for all tastes. Both times were in the evening. Lots of people around us enjoying themselves - eating and drinking well. Suggestion for the management. Do something more with the bar area. It is a bit stark. Turn down the lights... More

I have had the pleasure of dining at Finbarrs several times in recent months and to date the food and service are as one would expect from a restaurant that knows it has few competitors for food quality and dining experience in Durham. My most recent visit was for Sunday Lunch, and, as one might expect in a University town... More

Finbarr's thinks it's something it isn't. The menu is what the management imagines is cutting edge, culinarily speaking. Wrong. It is extremely affected. Not only that, but the nine of us dining found the food not all good by any means and some of it was quite sickly. Too many conflicting clever-clever combinations and flavours. Additionally, the restaurant was horribly... More

Magnificent experience here. Came to celebrate a graduation and this place was deemed celebratory and it certainly lived up to it!!! Definitely one of the 'posher' places to eat in Durham, the wine list is a real treat! Food was all wonderful and arrived in a timely manner as well. A single meal was not served with the potatoes it... More

Despite some negative reviews my experience was overwhelmingly positive. The food was very good, service prompt and intelligent. Certainly ranks as one of the best in the area.

We booked Finbarr's for our daughter's 21st meal. Just immediate family and a few friends. Lovely restaurant- we really enjoyed the ambience. Menu and service were both very good, the food was incedible! Thoroughly recommend it, one of the best meals we have ever had. We will definitely go again next time we visit Durham.

Classy food and service, everything done to perfection. If you haven't been here I'd strongly recommend it . A little outside the centre, a few minutes walk or a minute's drive.
