Excellent restaurant, more expensive than a normal sunday dinner but when the food is faultless you don't mind. Opted for the 2 course for £21, Portions are not huge but are more than adequate. Had the choice of med rare or well done beef, My med rare was perfect, my mam got the well done and must have got the... More

Our host at Finbarr's is clearly a very regular diner and we were treated very attentively throughout the evening. Clearly, outstanding in Durham's fine City and well-known to be so. Superb food, attentive service and efficient and responsible management. The Chef took time before we left to come to our table and share his thoughts. If in the City of... More

We chose this restaurant based on trip advisor reviews as we were visitors to Durham. What an excellent choice. We had made a reservation some weeks ago for 8pm and arrived at a full restaurant with the exception of our table and a couple of others. The atmosphere was electric and the service amazing. The staff were the right combination... More

Went for a meal on Monday evening with a German friend. The food was of the highest quality, beautifully presented and the service throughout was exceptional. Finbarr's has greatly improved in the past two or three years...The menu is interesting and complimented by a good unfussy wine list........This was a real Monday night treat.

Why this is not number one is beyond me. Normally do lunch but recently went for dinner mid week. As ever food was excellent, staff exemplary and a good reasonably priced wine list.

We went for Sunday lunch a couple of weeks ago with my daughter and her partner who were visiting from London. It is not the cheapest Sunday lunch around but the food was delicious. We all chose roast beef which was beautiful. The starters and desserts were also excellent. The staff were pleasant and the restaurant itself had a nice... More

Considering that this is a restaurant within a hotel, it is very good. The food is very well executed and presented / tasty. You can access the restaurant direct from the car park without going through the hotel and other than the somewhat pressing service ( it was only 7.30 but we felt that there was pressure to get the... Service is good however it's popular restaurant and rightly so. A good wine cellar too, make sure you book.

Wanted to eat here for a while now and had the opportunity on Friday. Read Tripadvisor reviews & was expecting exceptional service but unfortunately this was not the case! Although there was nothing wrong with the service it was very "bland" as opposed to the food which was delicious. I also did not think much of the wine list as... More
