Surprisingly good

This restaurant may not blow you away for the Italian haute cuisine, but that's not what it's all about: it's a surprisingly decent, warm, welcoming restaurant with no special pretensions inside a Travelodge. The lunchtime opening hours can be a bit erratic, but in the evening staff were always... read more

The location was perfect, the staff friendly, but unfortunately a few hours after eating a risotto at the attached restaurant I was vomiting all night. My wife had a different meal (no rice in her case) and was fine. Staff were understanding and sympathetic when we decided to leave a day early.

I know generally you get what you pay for....but my partner and young daughter visited Che Vita last night and I can truly say it was horrendous! Whilst the very enticing £3.98 for 3 courses sounds very inviting and a bargain, it is only good if it is edible! There was a choice of minestrone soup or potato skins for... More

Don't be put off by the fact that this is attached to a Travelodge! We went to 'Little Italy' for the first time in October 2010, and after a year in Durham we made it our last night out, and we weren't disappointed. The food is good (with peaks of excellence), the staff are friendly, and the atmosphere is welcoming,... More

This place now know as Durham's little italy may stand a chance if the new owners hire decent staff and management. The food was decent enough, the atmosphere was flat maybe the service might improve if the young manager were to actually do so managing rather than mess about with his mobile phone, and the extremely rude young lady who... I have visited this restaurant many times and I have to say even though it has changed ownership it still maintains it's excellent name as a Italian restaurant. I have worked in this type of industry for many years and I have to say the service from the staff and management was exceptional, always being enthusiastic and professional. What can... More

We have dined as group on several occasions at Che Vita specifically due to the location of the Travelodge. We have always found the food & service to be excellent and were extremely concerned on reading recent reviews as to what to expect. Well we bit the bullet and decided to go ahead with our reservation for 10 people and... More

Unfortunately, I didn't know that TripAdvisor did restaurant reviews before we returned to Che Vitas. We had been there before for many meals and had good meals. It's all change at Che Vitas. Although we didn't know this at the time our meals arrived, there is a new owner and 2 of the existing chefs had gone (according to the... More

This used to be my favourite restaurant in Durham, however Che Vita is now under new ownership & they are obviously in trouble already as all of the once lovely tables and chairs have been sold and replaced with cheaper, unmatching "canteen like" versions. Our party of 6 arrived at 7:30 on a Saturday at the end of February. The... More

I visited Durham on February 18th 2010 having pre booked a table at Che Vita. On arrival myself and my partner waited 10 mins without any acknowledgement, in the end we caught the attention of the barmaid who pointed us to a table. A smile would have been nice. Another 15 minutes wait before our drinks order was taken, we... More
