Description: 62 The Bank creates great flavours from around the globe. It's a wonderful place to meet up with friends and linger over a coffee, lunch or an evening meal. With an eclectic lunch & evening menu including seafood, Piri Piri dishes, salads, grills, house specials, and of course desserts there's sure to be something for everyone at 62 The Bank. The stylish brasserie is set in an extraordinary building, originally a merchant's house over 300 years ago, when Barnstaple was a bustling trading centre. The staggeringly beautiful Tudor ceiling was completed by members of the school of North Devon Plasterers in 1620. Since 1760, the building has been used by the public - first as the Golden Lion Inn, then the Golden Lion Hotel in the 19th century and then as a High Street bank for nearly forty years in the mid twentieth century. Now, this atmospheric building is restored to its former glory and, as in its heyday when it housed the Golden Lion, it is again a place where you can eat, drink and be merry.

Having had a Christmas meal at the bank, we were very disappointed. Staff service was great so could not complain nor would we. The meals were tasteless on the whole the vegetable were cold. The fish was totally disgusting, we did not complain when the waitress came round as she would have had to take back 13 meal with cold... More

Friends and I had dinner at 62 The Bank last night and I would certainly recommend this restaurant. The service was faultless, the food was delicious and well presented and the surroundings were very pleasant. A real talking point is the high vaulted ceiling, that was ornately decorated in 1620 with intricate plasterwork. You may wonder what a ceiling has... More

A small group of us booked for a pre Christmas get together. A good atmosphere during the evening at 62 The Bank in the middle if the week, where almost all tables booked. A very warm welcome from the staff who showed us to our seats. Drinks order dealt with efficiently and we were given just the right amount of... More

Stayed at the Royal and Fortescue Hotel recently for a 4 night break and had an evening meal here one night. Everything was excellent, from the booking of the meal through to the finishing coffee, which we drank in the hotel lounge. My wife had skewers which looked really nice and I had the chicken fajitas, which were also good.... More

Have been here a few times and never been disappointed. Service was friendly and polite as always. Food was prompt and delicious. Had nachos to start and was a lovely big portion, enough to feed four of us. I had peri peri chicken for a main and it was amazing. Price is reasonable. Only down side. Two of us had... More

I am a vegan and have found it difficult to eat at the Brend's establishments historically (despite the availability of microwaves, freezers and qualified chefs?). I visited on 22/10/2014 and after a couple of short questions was presented with one of the best meals ever (and all of the staff were more than accommodating). The chef made extra effort to... Have been here a couple times with family. It is owned by brend hotels and is next to the royal and fortesque hotel. We find it rather pretentious and over priced although the food is good. Used to be a bank hence the name. Very ornate ceiling.

This a rare gem in an otherwise unremarkable town. The food was fantastic and came really fast. I had bbw ribs as a starter but it was easily enough to be a main. My fillet steak was superb. The only let down was our waitress who didn't listen properly to our drinks order and I had to call her back... More
