Average food, reasonable service at this restaurant

I would say the food was very average, I had a stroganoff which was seriously lacking in any flavour and, as the price was average-to-high I expected better. Otherwise a pleasant experience - service was very slow as the upstairs room was full

Roast lamb dinner for two. Lamb cooked to perfection. No draught beers. I had a local stout, 'twas nice for a change. Staff friendly. Nice open fire in the lounge area.

We both had the fish pie and found it to be very tasty. Good generous portions. Followed by mince pie and mulled wine. Nice friendly service and good atmosphere.

My family & I visited this restaurant last Friday. With every other restaurant being choker block, we went to this one to try and get food. Was immediately greeted by a waitress who said she will give us a table as soon as possible. No offer of drinks at all. We were given a table and menus.. but there was... More

Went for an early tea, ate downstairs so not sure what it is like upstairs. Vegetable soup was lovely and the fish and chips were excellent. Unfortunately, the garlic mushrooms were lacking garlic and the chef had made up for this with lots of raw onions which made a very strange tasting dish. Not really any atmosphere as the place... We can here 8 years ago and enjoyed its character so much we thought we would return. The staff 2 young ladies seemed rushed of their feet with no other help to be seen. They did a good job and worked really hard. Service efficient. Food nice. Prosecco and the Irish coffee nice Table was next to a drafty window... More

This restaurant was very cosy & the majority of it is upstairs. The food was delicious especially the lamb shank which was very filling. My husband had the fillets of sea bass which he loved the service was excellent

Glad I didn't read some of the reviews before our visit to this restaurant. The food was good - my husband had the mince pie and mulled wine for dessert - the mince pie could have been bigger for the price charged. Only downside was we sat upstairs and the aircon was on - a bit chilly.

Visited here for a weekend evening meal...the name and history filled us with expectations, unfortunately the standard of food let down these expectations. Staff were friendly but restaurant was too hot. Not pleased with the standard of food therefore will not be returning! So many better places to eat in Bowness and area
