Being a fussy eater I was looking for somewhere with simple food. It has your more standard pub food which is ok. It looks a bit grubby but it's not a bad place for dinner.

Old English pub which doesn't look much from outside. Dogs allowed and as we had our dog with us gave it a try. It was a great choice, the steak was tender with no fat or gristle and extremely good value for money. The staff were friendly and service was prompt. The bad reviews on here regarding dogs are unfounded... More

Bowness has a wide variety of pubs and restaurants, with a wide variety of prices. The John Peel has a standard British pub menu and is half the price or less of many nearby eateries. It is a public house, not a Michelin Star restaurant. It is in the lakes, of course there are walkers and dogs, if you have... More

Good selection of food available. Staff very friendly and happy to give advice on food eg heat factor of the curry - which was good. Hubby had a steak with all the trimmings and it was a big plateful. Nice friendly pub, we will return.

We have had 2 meals this week and both have been excellent. Real home cooked food at reasonable prices. We will be eating there again this week. I first had beef and ale pie. You could really taste the beer. Delicious. Please do not be put off if dogs are in as you really are missing out. Thank you to... More

We called into this Pub on the off chance of getting a meal after an afternoon swimming. It was half five and the pub was serving food. It was very quiet in the pub but that didn't put us off. The staff were friendly enough and service quick. We ordered our meals from the set menu and one from the... More

Excellent food and drink at this pub, about 500 metres from the Pier Head. Service was very good and the staff very pleasant. Pub was quietish (Sunday evening) compared to other in the vicinity

Id like to started by saying that this was the worst pub meal I've ever had and certainly the worst sunday roast, if that's what you can call it. My girlfriend thought exactly the same and we will both usually try anything, so not usually fussy! Firstly we sat down after waiting (a complete free for all), I ordered a... More
