Lovely pub food

We ate here one Thursday lunchtime . The staff were welcoming and it was just right. The food was very tasty and not too expensive. I had scampi and my husband has the half chicken which he raved about.

Nice place if you want a quiet drink, the complete opposite of The Albert. But it is quite small for places to sit.

We only choose to eat here as it was close to the car park and it was raining! However we were glad we did. The service was great, and the choice was good and our order came very quickly. Very traditional pub food, fish and chips, sausage and mash, great! Great value and I would certainly use again.

OK but we found this pub quite expensive and a bit drab surroundings. The decor had seen better days.

Friendly staff, nice cask ales. Shopped around for food and prices - looked reasonable but I now know why! Paid £11.95 for gammon, egg and chips - literally - no veg/salad in sight and what was there was just ok. Cajun chicken (flat and tasteless) and spicy (really?) wedges at £8.95 with a lettuce leaf and slice of tomato was... More

Of all the times we've been to bowness and even stayed in the Albert across the road, we've never ventured into this pub before. My husband and I decided to scope the place out for the rest of my family for a lunch snack and it turned out to be a great

We had a wonderful meal, wonderful warm welcome and friendly staff! We ordered ribs and sausage and mash and the man behind the bar made was welcoming and cracking jokes and nothing was to much trouble. The food came quickly and was very hot and freshly made. The quantity of food was really good and so was the quality! Both... More

We've been in here before, mainly because it's a dog friendly pub and close to where we were staying. Finding ourselves back in the Lakes we once again found The Old John Peel, It's as friendly as ever and the food was just as good as we remembered. We lunched on well filled sandwiches and a generous portion of chips... More

My wife and I went to this pub last night for a drink around 9:30pm. When we arrived it was a bit quiet and "dead" and I wondered why since it looked like a great traditional English pub on the outside. Girl behind bar was pleasant and polite. After buying our drinks we sat down and enjoyed our drinks. After... More
