Tasty lunch

We had a lovely lunch here, in this fab little pub. The outside area was full, so we sat inside, which was fascinating. The food was delicious - very fresh and served very speedily. Definitely one to return to.

Bowness's oldest pub is amazing -look up at the wooden ceiling panels and marvel at the eccentric collection of gazzunders, whisky branded water jugs and other stuff. It's a proper pub down to it's selection of local beers, log fire and no nonsense- but very friendly -landlady. Charles Dickens visited here and so should you

Did not have a meal as only being on a day coach trip from Blackpool we just did not have time but no trip to Bowness is complete without a visit to this watering hole which has a character all of it's own. So much to see takes a while and the service is so quick it is unbelievable If... More

I loved this weird old pub. Just had drinks as the lunch had finished at 2pm, it's full of vintage bits and bobs, not many of these traditional pubs left so made a nice change from the standard chain types.

Stayed at the McDonald Old England and this is literally 50 yards away around the corner but hidden off the main street. The oldest pub in Bowness is a real gem. We didn't eat but the beer, service and general ambience was brilliant. There are stuffed animals etc dotted around the walls and jugs hanging from the beamed ceilings providing... More

Character is in abundance here. From the 400 year old structure, the heavy beams, the dead animals hanging on the walls, and the chamber pots and other assorted pottery hanging on the walls; what could be better. The character extended to the 15 touches of humor listed on a card on each table, "when ordering your drinks please remember to... More

We stopped into this pub while we were in Bowness. It's got a lovely atmosphere - tons of history and is well worth a visit. They don't serve food past 5pm on Sundays which we thought was a little strange but I assume they just go for a roast that day. There are a lot of stuffed animals in the... More
