As others have reported, this is an old pub - stone floors, stuffed animals (rabbit, hare, fox, pheasants) hanging up or on the walls. Our party was two grandparents, two parents and a well-behaved 3-year-old girl for a Thursday lunch. The pub was very quiet so the service was very good. The food is "typical pub grub". The chilli nachos (£6.95)... More

You have to search out this Pub down back streets and alleys - but, worth the effort. As with every British Pub, get your drinks first then check out the menu, order at the bar. Plenty of local beers/ales to choose from. There was no complaints about the meals. Take care the meals are served at your table which in... More

Had a lovely winter afternoon spent in this establishment. The staff were lovely ESPECIALLY the very friendly barman which I think was the manager. He was very accommodating and made us feel very welcome. The food was nice and the atmosphere of the pub with its roaring fire was perfect. I will be returning.

Every year we visit this pub and I absolutely love it. A proper old unspoilt pub. Well worth a visit! Traditional open fire which is always a bonus. Real ales and has an almost haunted feel when the back room is empty.

We visit this pub everytime we go to the Lake District, it is a proper old pub which is full of character. In the winter there is a real fire, which is so relaxing. Staff are very friendly. Food is good. Lovely pub!!

Very oldy worldy pub with good beers and a quaint character. Roaring log fires in winter. Good patio to sit in the sun in summer.

We loved it so much we kept going back. My husband and I called in Hole in t'wall almost every day of our 7 week stay in Bowness. We popped in at different times of the day/night and it was never empty or unwelcoming. With its roaring fire, friendly barman and old charm it's the place to go on a... More
