Popped in for quick dinner around 5pm - restaurant looks quite attractive from outside and is well located in Bowness. However, inside it is clearly tired and in need of a makeover. The food was very reasonably priced for Bowness but - to be frank - was only ok. The Christmas turkey was just sliced turkey - doubt it was... More

Lovely atmosphere with quiet, background music. Good choice of menu with good value set menu as well. Well cooked and good plateful. So good we went twice over the 3 nights staying nearby.

Very extensive menu with a good choice. Chose to have chicken, and steak pies. Both very good. Pudding was nice but wasn't what I was expecting - advertised as a crumble but more of a sponge! Good service, nice chatty staff.

We chose this restaurant from the many in bowness because of it's cosy, country pub look and feel. We weren't expecting gourmet food but did think it would be decent quality home cooked pub grub. Instead what we got was school dinner quality. Cumberland sausage ring was Ok, served on pretty flavourless mash with a Bisto or worse quality granules... More

Good food, good value with tired decor. The location is very central and in summer with all of the plants the place looks great. We had a good meal with pleasant staff on a Winters evening. Portion sizes were good and the food was well cooked. Great seats at the front to see everything happening outside.

After wondering around Bowness-on-Windermere looking for a different place to eat, we came to Sutherlands and managed to get the last table available. The waitress seemed a little unsure of herself (think she was not used to so many people and perhaps lacked a little confidence) but got my lady friend and I sat at a table for two, the... More

We visited based on seeing people eating outside. The food looked great and good portions too. We weren't disappointed by our food. Burger with feta cheese and sweet onion relish and the braised steak were both delicious. Reasonably priced too. The only thing letting Sutherland's down is the decor. Very tired and dated. Definitely needs brightening up.

We had the two course menu and started with a home made vegetable broth it was delicious, we both choose a roast meat dinner which was also very tasty and well presented. Good choice on the menu and reasonable price

We went to Sutherlands for lunch, we found the restaurant clean, the staff friendly and gave good service. The food was good, good sized portions, and reasonably priced. I would recommend this restaurant for good food.

We visited on our honeymoon, one evening during the week. Exterior is lovely and when going inside we were greeted by an open fire and a very friendly waitress who was very knowledgable and helpful. My husband had steak which was cooked to perfection! I had the steak and ale pie which was mouthwatering!! Then to follow we shared a... More
