Amazing....Again !!!

I have visited the Crown on several occasions over the last 4years .....where does time go!!! and have never been disappointed. I feel that I need to tell the world about this delightful individual spot of culinary expertise..... well done, but I dare not shout too loud as I don't want it to become... read more

It has been a while since I've eaten here, but so pleased to say the food is just as good as I remembered it! The restaurant has been extended and it has a lovely feel to it, warm and welcoming. The food was delicious and I certainly took advantage of the special offer for English Tourism week. Dessert was divine,... More

Called to try the fish and chip special on a Monday evening and would certainly return. Real chips and lovely white fresh fish with mushy peas and tartare sauce. Warm and cosy environment with a lovely hot stove to sit next to on cosy seats. Was not that busy but that was not a problem and it was a Monday... More

We've eaten here several times and have always been impressed by their ability to recruit friendly and helpful staff. This visit was no exception. They personalised our starter to combine two which was a nice touch. The twice cooked steak was beautiful as were the chips. Always pleased to see a couple of real ales - the steam beer was... More

We visited two nights running while on a short break in Teesdale. We nearly didn't call in because we were put off by the £5 fish and chips sign outside.!!The place has been refurbished beautifully without losing the character. Pleasant decor and v attentive staff both nights. Menu very varied and interesting. We both enjoyed two courses each and were... More

Four of us ate lunch here recently with the two courses for £12 option. Sally was very attentive but did not rush us whilst we considered our options. 3 of us ordered the twice cooked steak which was relatively small but tasty nonetheless. The salad came with a tasty dressing and the chips and peppercorn sauce were very good. One... More

We like this pub restaurant. It is cosy and friendly with a relaxed atmosphere. Sharing starters are good and the meat is usually excellent quality and we'll cooked. Unfortunately service was very slow on our last visit in spite of being early evening and not too busy. The food was the usual good quality: excellent steak with hot crisp onion... More

We were starving when we arrived as we'd just been on a walk in Low Force. We had booked ahead, and the pub was v busy. Our drinks were served promptly and as the Sunday menu is q short (a good thing) we made our selections quickly - 2 pork & 1 chicken Sunday lunches and 1 Andalucian chicken stew.... More

We have visited here quite a few times, the last time being a little disappointing. We are happy to confirm that our experience this time was much improved. All aspects were as they had been in the past - very good. It will now be added back as a recommended place to go.

We were staying with a group of friends in Romaldkirk and eight of us walked to The Crown. As we were going out in the evening we only wanted drinks and snacks. That's what great about the menu - starters and mains come in standard size or small and there are sandwiches and sides of chips etc as well. We... More
