Great traditional Tea Room

Very good coffee/tea room. Traditional service and ambience with a contemporary feel. Very busy which is always a good sign. Great coffee and scones and a good selection of cakes. Everything from breakfasts to a wide variety of light bites and lunches.

And the food matched the staff! Excellent choice of meals and the food was very tasty. Family consensus (7 + baby) was 10/10, it was so good for lunch, we went back the next day. The coffee cafetière choices were a great surprise for the caffeine lover and the triple stake sandwich is to die for. The triple dessert was... More

Fantastic family friendly cafe, staff were really accommodating of our large group and, frankly, giant pushchair. Service was prompt and the savoury food was presented beautifully and tasted to match. The triple stack sandwiches are a particular highlight.

We visited for a pre-shop cuppa on the recommendation of a friend's mother, who is notoriously fussy about cleanliness and good service and we were not disappointed. Tea served in weighty silver teapots which kept the tea hot! Staff were polite, friendly and helpful and this along with the delicious toasted teacakes made us quickly decide to return after shopping... More

Explaining to the staff at Bowes Museum that we wanted to lunch at a local place to experience more of the English villages, we were directed to Clarendon's Cafe. It was just what we were looking for. Small, quaint, friendly people, storybook-style twisted staircase to their 2nd floor shop and 3rd floor

We had the pleasure of having morning coffee and lunch at this restaurant and the food and service was excellent. We had a 6 week old baby with us and the staff couldn't have been more helpful. A must place to eat.

Visited by chance, had a fantastic steak baguette and jacket potato. Hot chocolate was fantastic (with marshmallows), was reasonably priced - under £20 for 2. Would recommend and would go back!

During our stay in Barnard Castle my wife and I stopped in at Clarendon’s for a light breakfast. My wife liked the perfectly prepared scrambled eggs with toast and I liked the fruit scones with preserves. My wife likes her English Breakfast tea (with cream please). Because the seating is quite limited we often needed to share a table. This... More

Impromptu lunch out with the children. Fantastic service and friendly staff. Mugs of soup and sandwiches were presented beautifully and tasted great. And the waitress checked with the chef regarding our food allergies too. Very good place for lunch. Would highly recommend.
