We booked yesterday for Easter Monday afternoon tea . Terrible selection of dry sandwiches Biscuits and flapjacks instead of cakes and one scone each. Terrible value at £12.50 per person Won't be going back.

The evening started badly when we were approached by the waitress to take our drinks order. As I was about to tell her what I wanted a rude man from another table shouted "excuse me" and she promptly walked off to deal with them leaving me in mid order. I was left open mouthed and in shock. Oh well that... More

My parents had booked Sunday lunch for eleven of us as a celebration for their fiftieth wedding anniversary, so the meal was a pretty big deal for them. On the plus side - and this is the only plus - most of the dishes were tasty and the restaurant pulled off the not easy achievement of ensuring that vegetables that... More

We live locally and had our daughter & husband staying with us for a visit. They wanted to treat us to a cream tea and took us to the Balmer Lawn Hotel. You would imagine a place like this to be lovely but the food was dreadful. The scones literally fell apart as you picked them up - half of... More

With 1/2 hour to spare before a dinner appointment elsewhere I decided to stop for a drink, that was the first mistake! Entered the establishment via reception and no acknowledgement from reception, too busy having a chat with a colleague. Made my way to the bar and asked for a wine list, second mistake, I was handed a grubby, sticky... More

Lovely location. Beautiful sat outside in the sun having a pre-lunch drink. Went inside for the Sunday jazz carvery - and that's when it all changed. The carvery was shocking value for money as was the service. The jazz band were more interested in getting their lunch than actually creating any atmosphere by actually playing Loads if better places in... More

This was my second visit to the restaurant at Balmer Lawn. The first time I could not fault the whole experience yet this second visit will be my last for a while. The food is delicious: signature dishes of belly pork, Sea Bream and Scallops to name a few (however, at £10 for a starter of scallops I would have... More

My wife (Beccy) and I visited Beresfords yesterday to meet up with a long lost cousin during a short visit to the New Forest. We met for Sunday lunch, which is a carvery. A meal which should be easy to get right, but in so many cases with many hurdles that go wrong. Howevr Beresfords provided us not only with... More
