Good food, lovely ambience

Went with a group of girlfriends for a night out for food, drink and a catch up. I've not eaten at the Filly since it's changed and was very pleasantly surprised. The menu had a good choice of good quality food away from the run of the mill pub grub. I had a lovely chicken breast with garlic butter... read more

Lovely setting, looking tired, very quiet for a Saturday lunchtime, website over exaggerates this average pub, very cold day, but no log fire burning although we believe it was an electric log fire not even this was turned on, quite unbelievable, very large portions, which would be better served by smaller portions, cheaper dish cost and therefore maybe more starter... We were staying in a local hotel and arrived early on Christmas Eve and were looking somewhere for lunch before we could book in. I remembered the Filly from a previous visit. The car park is a nice large car park where there is a place where you can let your dog have a quick toilet break - not forgetting... More

Contrary to the opinion of a recent review, we visited The Filly recently after an interval of a year or so and found it less pretentious than previously. The food was well cooked and presented and the prices about right. Yes, there was a wait but that's no problem if it means some care and attention is going into the... More

Met here for lunch with friends, six of us in total. Very nice atmosphere and pub. Good choice of food, which was all very nice, if perhaps a little on the expensive side for pub grub. Nothing really to criticize other than it took a very long time after ordering to get the food, and the pub was not very... More

I can honestly say the roast dinner was the worst I have ever had. It was tasteless, the sprouts were hard as were the carrots. They also charge £7 for an ordinary dessert which I think is way over the top.

When The Filly was just an unpretentious country pub it was one of the best in the New Forest. The location is still the same but everything else other than the patterned carpets has changed – ambience, menu, and prices. It’s been gastrocised, and in my book anywhere that features prices like “£13 ¼” (don’t they know we understand pence... More

Dear Beezkneez, Thank you for taking the time to review us on Trip Advisor. Over recent months The Filly has undergone a change from offering typical 'pub food' to a more restaurant style offering. The majority of our customers have welcomed this change with gusto, while quirky features such as pence in fractions offer a different approach to menu design.... More

All had varied meals, including sausage and mash, fish and roasts, which we all enjoyed. Service was a little slow, but food was good when it arrived. Vegetables coked to perfection, just the right amount of "crunch". Not particularly hot, but OK. Average price for area for food, and would visit again. Staff extremely pleasant.

We visited the Filly Inn after a long walk in the New Forest with our dog and enjoyed the best roast ever experienced outside of the home! We were delighted that our dog was allowed to join us at our table inside the very attractively decorated dining area. We had roast beef and roast chicken, a little bit pricey at... More

Stayed here again from 17th to 20th of October after returning from 16 days in Lanzarote for a wind down before work. Again this has to be the best jewel in the crown of the New Forest. Again the staff, food and room were excellent. We really cant find any fault with this inn. It caters for the mature market... More
