A mixed review really. The portions were large and looked great but when it came to the taste, it was rather average and I expected more. For example, when something is spicy in a 'Mexican' restaurant you expect flavours of habanero or at least fresh chilli- but those flavours weren't there. Instead, I could taste chilli powder leaving an overall... More

We went for a meal tonight and were served by a balding middle aged man who looks like Max Branning, but was very attentive and the food was excellent. Recommended!

I live in the local area and recently took a trip into Newton Abbot. After browsing a few shops in the town center we stumbled upon 'Rio Grande' and thought we'd give it a try. What a lovely surprise! The staff were extremely attentive; taking orders at the table when you usually are required to walk to the bar, as... More

Welcomed as soon as we arrived, one middle aged man wearing a blue shirt and tie was particularly friendly and attentive to our needs and even offered table service because it was quiet. Our food arrived quickly and was a good portion size and was very filling! I really enjoyed my time here and will be returning.

We have been here a few times and I am really glad that it is in Newton Abbot as we can park nearby and enjoy some good tex mex away from the madness that is Torquay. The restaurant is comfortable and roomy. There is a good choice on the menu and a childrens menu where they can put together a... More

Love it here. The food is plentiful, the value is great and it's generally a nice and relaxed place to meet with friends. We've visited during lunch hours also and found the staff to be attentive and the food just as good! Lots of mention of horrible food and overpricing. They don't claim to be Michelin Star holders. It is... More

I was in Newton Abbot with my daughter; it was early evening on a Friday and we were struggling to find somewhere we could eat that was a) open and b) not a pub. We found the Rio Grande and were able to walk straight in and sit down. (Most of the tables were reserved for later in the evening.)... More

Good food, nice drinks and terrific company with service that was second to non, what more could you ask for? You can see why booking ahead is essential to get a place. The service was superb and the way it should be - I can't stand this silly idea of rice with the chilli, it wasn't designed to be when... More

Lovely meal, good service, very popular, you must book in advance! A good range of spicy dishes, veggy dishes and plainer foods. Something for everyone.

Decided to take my boyfriend here as a treat for date night. Phoned to make a reservation earlier on in the day & the lady who answered the phone was very helpful & friendly. Arrived at the restaurant & the waitress greeted us & showed us to our reserved table in one of the booths, very cosy for two people... More
