Something a little different

When friends suggested the Rising Sun at Christian Malford for a, long overdue, rendezvous we expected typical fare from a village pub. I'm happy to say we were far from the mark! Great menu and service and all at a very reasonable price. The quirkiness adds to the occasion: well behaved West Highland terrier, avuncular aspiriring Parliamentarian land lord ( today Christian Malford, tomorrow the World etc) . We've been several times in the last month, never disappointed.

I ate here for the first time last month and were pleasantly surprised. This place is the perfect example of "don't judge a book by its cover"... the food could easily be from a 5-star restaurant in the middle of a big city, but instead it's found in a quaint pub that houses a furry host named Angus. I now... More

We came here by chance and had a delightful evening. The staff were friendly and welcoming. There was a great choice on the menu and they were happy to adapt dishes for a vegetarian. The food was delicious. We hadn't been here for ages but we'll definitely be back again soon.

We as a family frequently go to The Rising Sun for lunch and dinner and I have to say it is the best pub in the county! The food is excellent and the service is impeccable! They never disappoint us!

We enjoyed a perfect Sunday lunch in the pub. The beef was tremendous served pink with a huge Yorkshire pudding, lots of vegetables (braised red cabbage, sweet potato, cabbage, carrots and a vintage cauliflower cheese) and lashings of gravy. The service was excellent, the staff were very attentive, as was the pub dog Angus when we called him over! A... More

Together with my daughter and her boyfriend we went on spec and had a great evening. Informal, friendly and with a great ambience. The food was very good. I enjoyed my scallops (although one or two extra would have been good) and we all had steaks that were cooked to meet our tastes. The staff were friendly and helpful. The... More

We happened across this place by pure accident (sat nav issues)..... and im glad we did. I have a fond childhood memory of a ploughmans lunch in a country pub with my grandparents.... and ever since then i have been trying to find a pub that does one as good. I have to say... this place comes very very close....... More

We stopped here for lunch while driving along the M4 as it is only a couple of miles from the Chippenham junction and were thrilled we had as the food was outstanding! Home made crisps, home made Scotch egg, fabulous Rogan Josh curry and then delicious home made chocolates and shortbread biscuits with the cafetière of coffee afterwards. My husband... More
