We liked the pub and restaurant even if they are at odds with each other, pub down to earth few local "characters" and quite lively. Young guy singing and playing guitars very well but not everyone seemed to notice. The restaurant is different smarter more touristy and our set meal for 3 including aromatic duck was very good but a... More

It was lunchtime and the three of us were ready for a drink and a bite to eat. We chose a platter of food to share along with our drinks. The bar staff were very friendly and helped us with our selection once we had explained what we wished for, as we eat our main meal in the evenings and... More

Visited the Nelson Thai for a birthday meal last week and was thoroughly disappointed with the service we received and food. On arrival into the restaurant we were given the menu's and were sat waiting at the table for 30 minutes waiting for someone to take our drinks and food from the menu. As we were waiting so long we... More

Thought we would try this out as we are great lovers of thai food and sadly I didn't think it lived up to the reviews. I had the tom ka gai soup and found it to be very bland and the chicken tasted like processed meat. I then had a red thai beef and again it tasted like processed meat,... More

We'd booked for lunch as we'd been told the Thai menu was special ("special" doesn't do it justice!) and thought we were going to a restaurant - wrong! It is a country pub (which is a good thing) with an '80s style cafeteria furnished restaurant and a beer garden which had the smokers amongst the locals hovering at the edges... More

Not many restaurants offer a whole lobster on their menu. None that I know of, apart from The Nelson, do that for £14-50! You can pay this for a standard main dish at many mainstream restaurants. Lobster tends to much more expensive and often only for a half a lobster. Luckily we can walk to the Nelson and on a... More

Had 2-4-1 cream tea voucher for the Nelson Tavern which worked out at £11 for 4 of us. Scones were lovely and warm which is always a bonus. Plenty of strawberry jam and cream. We had 3 coffees and as one of us doesn't drink tea or coffee, they were given a pint of diet coke which we thought was... More

So it's fathers day and I decided to take my family out for a meal. I like Thai food and have eaten at many well known local Thai venues in Christchurch and Bournemouth area. We booked a table and when we arrived we shown to our table by a young waitress. She was very friendly and took our drinks order.... More

Excellent meal with pleasant service. We were staying at a local hotel and walked here. Had previously visited 5 years ago. The only niggle I had was being charged 50p for a splash of lemonade with my vodka and because I had "more than an inch"(apparently an inch constitutes a splash!) I was also charged for a 125ml lemonade as... More
