We went here on a Tuesday evening, having read the reviews on Tripadvisor. The restaurant was nearly full, as soon as the doors opened! The Similan is a small restaurant, but it has a very homely feel to it. The majority of the other diners were local people on return visits. We started with the mixed starters, these were very... Been a while since we ate here but it is even better than before. Menu is 100% authentic thai and food piping hot and delicious. This place is a bit of a gem. We did not make a reservation but arrived just after 7 on a Sunday night. The place was full by 8pm! The coconut ice cream is out... More

My husband and I have eaten here on a number of occasions. We have never been disappointed. The food is delicious and there is a good wine list. The menu is a little limited when you consider other restaurants but the quality is excellent. I can definitely recommend this little gem!

We visited this restaurant yesterday for lunch. It was excellent as always. We have been going here for many years and have not had a poor meal. The service is good. If you go on the weekend reserving a table is strongly advisable.

Visited Highcliffe for the bank holiday weekend and asked the renter of our holiday cottage for a few recommendations one of which was Similan Thai. Advised to book for Saturday night and place full when we arrived at 8.15pm. Excellent mixed starter and good portion size of very spicy main courses. Could only manage one desert between us. I'd say... More

We went one Friday evening and food was ok but nothing special we thought. Quite a few tables in - maybe need to try again.

In a part of the country where prices can be on the high side, this restaurant represents excellent value for money. We had lovely mixed starters and the main dishes were well and obviously freshly prepared, portion sizes being very large. Unfortunately, the meat in one of our dishes was tough and lacking in flavour, although the flavouring was excellent.... More

We had a meal for a party of six in this packed little restaurant - service as always is excellent and good value . Best of all is the quality of the food - the spicy soup is as fragrant a dish as I have ever had - and all the curries , noodles and spicy prawns were equally good... More

Very good meal. As far as I know, very authentic. Best Tom Yum Going I've had since visiting Chiang Mai. Jngle curry is described as hot, and is. Ice cream was an unexpected joy at the end of the meal.

Visited this restaurant this evening with some fellow experienced Thai travellers. Food was spot on. The Tom Yum Goong soup was as good as any we have had in Thailand. Lots of woody bits that you don't eat (check the earlier idiot that complained about this). It was all good, food and service. The home made coconut ice cream was... More
