Great ambiance and food

We have walked past this restaurant several times before but finally decided to try it for lunch. We were given sofa seats on the outside terrace which offered a nice view to the quayside across the park whilst protecting you from the wind. Food was good. Been to the Boathouse a few times this year, always go in the evening for dinner, the atmosphere is the best thing here, it's so relaxed, and the outdoor and indoor heaters are the best thing. It creates a warm feel to the place. A little expensive but not bad considering it's by the quay.

The Boathouse is a decent modern restaurant / bar. The food is generally good, with large portions that are certainly value for money, even if the time between courses is a little long to wait on a busy night. My only concern is that the waitresses aren't aware of basic food hygiene. It isn't acceptable for a waitress to sneeze... More

Had an early dinner. Tried their duck pizza with salad in the middle..a speciality on the menu. Very much average. The trout two of my friends had were quite good..so it's probably a hit or miss depending on what you order. Service was ok..the poor waitress stuggled but managed to keep a smile. Go early, get a marina view table... More

The food is very overpriced and nothing special. The waitresses aren't very friendly and service is slow. The view is nice, but that is the only positive. For good food and excellent service in Christchurch try Splinters or the Captains Club.

Thank you very much to the friendly and attentive staff at The Boathouse! We turned up on a busy Bank Holiday Saturday evening without an booking expecting a table to be a real long shot but were told we would be seated within 25 minutes – We grabbed an (enormous) G&T and sat outside whilst we waited, 15 minutes later... Popped in for a coffee with the in-laws, was amazed by how many staff were working, especially considering how long it took (2 out of 4) of our coffees to arrive. We didn't have food but what I saw coming out from the kitchen looked good, if a little over priced. The gents toilets were not in a great condition,... More

Waited quite a while for starter to arrive & another hour for main to arrive! Calamari was tasteless except for the grease! Steak was medium to welldone instead of medium as requested, also fatty and chewy, the shiitake mushrooms tasted like fat! Yuk.. Didn't complain as I was with friends also had waited so long for the food to arrive... More

Visited as two couples for dinner and found the boathouse to be pretty average and uninspiring. The positives were the location and modern decor. Pizzas were dull, and the bases were not very nice. I expect it would be nice for drinks on a sunny afternoon but I wouldn't bother spending the money on food again.
