Description: With its sweeping, panoramic views and glossy black and white interior, Six restaurant situated on the rooftop of the Baltic Centre for Contemporary Arts in Gateshead has become a firm favourite with the local gourmet set. Luvvies, stylistas and city-types alike adore this gem of a restaurant which is the ideal setting for grand romantic gestures, celebrations and unique dinner parties. The modern British menu designed by Executive Chef Richard Sim includes all of your old favourites complete with a fresh new twist, and we love the fillet of venison with buttered Cox apples and rosti potatoes; the duck spring rolls with honey and Hoi Sin sauce; and the rump steak with Bearnaise sauce and chunky chips.

We went for a Sunday lunch and were very disappointed. No chicken available, beef was very fatty and the whole meal was cold. Definitely not value for money! One plus was very helpful waitress who gave my mother in law a dessert that was not on the menu.

Our first time at Six and won't be the last. We booked a table for 5.45pm and were seated straight away and we requested a window table which we were given. Lovely views as expected. The decor is lovely, very white and classy. We ordered from the early evening special. 3 courses for £18.50 which is absolutely excellent value for... More

Very pleasant evening here on Friday. Staff were friendly, efficient and knowledgeable. Atmosphere quite lively and relaxed. Food was good, mains included grouse and turbot, both well cooked and not what I would have at home which is one of the things I enjoy about eating out. The views are a bonus, will go back.

During a weekend stay to move our son into his University accommodation, the three of us booked a 5.30pm table before a shoe in the nearby Sage Theatre - trying out the £18.50 three course special. It may have been "the special offer" but there was no skimping on quality. Great food, well served - looking out over the great... More

It's a difficult one, this. The food had ambition and kind of delivered but something was lacking. We were there for lunch and had the set menu. The cauliflower soup was thick and tasty but bizarrely didn't taste of cauliflower. Crispy squid was cooked well but heavily outnumbered by the salad and over generous amounts of capers. My sea bass,... More

We had reserved a table at 8pm for a birthday celebration and were eventually shown to our seats at 8:30. The starters took a further 60 minutes to arrive. Of the starters the scallops were probably the pick. My pigeon was totally overpowered by the cumin in a herb crumb. Two of the party ordered the mussels: tasty but only... More

This was the third time i have been to Six and i have liked it more each time i have been. The massive selling point is of course the location and the view, the tyne has never looked better even on a rainy evening. The decor and organisation inside also adds to the atmosphere, its relaxed and spacious. Myself and... More

My friends and I came for a birthday meal on Monday. We had a reservation so we were shown to our table when we arrived. When sat we enjoyed our view over river and Newcastle. We looked through the drinks menu and the two food menus. From which two of us chose a bottle of red, and myself and companion... More
