We ate here twice while staying at Merlewood near Grange over Sands, firstly as it was within walking distance but the second time because we had enjoyed our first meal so much. They served three well-kept real ales, of which Dizzy Blonde was our favourite. The menu was varied and suited all tastes. I particularly enjoyed my gnocchi starter and... More

Visited here on our last night in the Lakes. Fab food especially the sticky toffee pudding. A pleasant pub with good service although a tiny bit slow between courses. We would come back.

Not a good place just to drop in for a meal. We have eaten once and walked out twice. Too few staff on duty. Too long to wait to take order and then deliver drinks and a meal.

Nice pub in the centre of Cartmel...beautiful location. Nice walks, the brewery and priory is worth a visit. Also there are some good coffee shops. there is also a racecourse and imagine it will be very busy on race days

Had several good meals here during the course of a week. Cannot fault the food which was always excellent and service good as well considering always quite busy. Specials board changes frequently. Beer only average but that's typical of the area - still yet to find real ales!

Great friendly pub found on the way back to London after a weekend in the Lakes District. Sat in the sunshine outside and all four of us were impressed with our meals - one of the best we had all weekend. Definitely recommend.

We were on holiday in the area and were out and about looking for somewhere to eat. Seen the Royal Oak and decided to give it a try. We had not booked but we were given a table for a group of 5 no problem. A really warm welcome from all members of staff, barman advised us on what sort... More

My wife and I had dinner here on 18th April. A busy local pub with a menu containing some unusual items. Unfortunately they had sold out of one of the specials, rabbit casserole which I would like to have tried. We shared a Cumbrian antipasti platter for starters, with local air dried ham, venison chorizo etc. which was delicious, followed... More

We visited this place on the way back to our holiday park for a lunch time meal. Very pleased with this place - very tasteful decor, good service, great ambience and above all tasty. Immaculately clean, including very clean and nicely presented toilets. If we are ever in the area we will definitely visit again so would recommend this place... More

My friend and I were staying in the Lakes over Easter and called in without a reservation to the Royal Oak. We were given the only table which wasn't reserved (always a good sign when the tables are all reserved!) and were in luck. The service was good and the staff very attentive, the Thai curry was excellent. It's a... More
