Went to the Hare and Hounds on the last night of our Cumbrian holiday. What a lovely pub. We ate from the specials menu, my son said that the duck breast starter was the best he'd ever had and my wife echoed this with her dressed lobster main. My lamb was also excellent. Friendly and helpful staff.

This is a fabulous pub in a beautiful location, you really do feel transported when you arrive in this rural, remote location... peace abounds. Although when we stepped into the pub on a busy Friday night (it was a gorgeous summer evening) we didn't know whether they would have room for us but we were met with the most friendly... More

On a beautiful summer's evening the drive here from Newby Bridge where we were staying was stunning - and no further than driving into Cartmel. We were warmly welcomed and our reserved table was a spacious one in the window - perfect. The twice baked cheese souffle with chive sauce was delicious, and followed by a generous portion of lamb... Friendly and welcoming staff who genuinely appeared to like working there, very knowledgable about the food and it's local provenance. The meal was lovely and we look forward to returning soon.

Had a superb dinner here last Saturday night. The service was excellent and very welcoming. The food was delicious and the gravy was the best I've ever tasted! Excellent value too. Highly recommended.

We were recommended to come here and although it involved a 10 mile trip along some tight roads, we were looking forward to our visit. The place was busy and we found the staff welcoming and attentive throughout our whole stay. No faults there at all. Starters were soufflé, very tasty and the strips of beef salad. The beef itself... Having spent four nights in The Hare and Hounds, we found the standard of food and accommodation to be excellent. The staff were always helpful and made us feel very welcome for the duration of our stay. A lovely spot if you enjoy a hillside ramble. The stunning topiary gardens at Levinshall twenty minutes drive away are well worth a... More
