Couldn't get better fish and chips anywhere

I know my fish and chips. From the crisp and dry in Shark Bay, through to the unpalatable in Swansea. The Fort Cafe is well up there on the list. Fish (haddock, cod) is freshly caught, and cooked to order. Chips appear to be hand-cut and were crisp, dry and fresh. Even the mushy peas were good... read more

If anyone is looking for the real 'fish and chips experience' in Shetland (or even Scotland) I would recommend here. Do not be put off by the building or decor. It is all about the food! Prices mean it is considered a treat nowadays but their fish and chips are always very good. Fresh fish and proper greasy/crispy chips. Visitor... More

Really great haddock and chips; the best we had in Shetlands. It was just very accurately cooked. The fish was not greasy, batter was dry and the chips were crisp. Portions were large- order a small one.

Another well established eatery is the Fort Cafe & chip shop. Only place in town folk can sit in and enjoy the freshest fish around. A varied menu to suit all. Only thing I really miss they don't serve anymore is curried pancakes. All in all a must visit for visitors & locals.

Superd food, nice variety our fish and chips turned out to be 2 whales, all perfectly cooked, real craftspeople here. Small no nonsense cafe with good food. One of the few times that i was glad they forgot the bread and butter. "You gotta eat here"!

The Fort Cafe is situated at the end of Commercial Street near to where it joins on from the top of The Esplanade, and is very popular with locals and visitors. It offers a dine in and take away options, is basic, clean and good value for money with friendly staff. The Fort Cafe does a great fish supper and... More

The service was attentive and the fish and chips were fine. This is a place to go if you are hungry and want a quick meal. Value is good but ambience is pretty basic-cheap and cheerful.

We ate here a few times during a recent stay in Lerwick and it was consistently good. Very reasonable prices - and the fish tasted like it had just come out the sea! Would highly recommend a visit, either to sit in (which is a little dated and basic) or to take away.

... we experienced in Lerwick. Real tasty (despite not being deep-fried in beef dripping...), & so fresh! fish & chips, decent portions, simply served in basic surroundings. Although, we didn't realize until our 2nd visit that the crushed/mushy peas were included in the price - these were never offered up 1st time 'round. (Young waitress somewhat dour, 'no nonsense'.) No... More
