All the restaurants are down by the harbourside and they seem to be full needing, reservations. This is on the main street and to our minds was the best place in Kirkwall to eat and we never had a problem getting a table. They make food on the premises within sight of everyone. It's lovely to see a cake being... More

Went here with my wife and 3 children on a maxi day trip from the mainland. Well what can I say, wonderful food. I had an excellent ploughmans, the boys had crab claws and a cheese melt, m. Wife had the pate and the daughter had a smoked salmon platter. Everything was finished off easily as all loved the food... More

we arrived on a miserable August day with very little time to enjoy a proper lunch. But the venue looked really interesting and the staff were very welcoming, We only had enough time for tea and cake but it was first class and everything the surrounding customers were served was equally delicious looking. take a little time to enjoy the... An informal, snack-bar atmosphere makes this a good place to drop in any time - it serves food till 9.00pm, open till 10.00. The food is good, and the service quick (you order at the counter). It's not the place for a special occassion, but we ate there again and again during our stay in Kirkwall.

This little cafe is conveniently located at the heart of Kirkwall and open considerably longer than the others. Even late on the day you an turn up here and find a wide selection of produce still available. Whether it be for a hot meal or coffee and cake, this place will not let you down. Everything is prepared fresh to... More

Delicious food, lots of choice, and open much later than most of the local cafes. A bit pricey, by my standards, but worth it.

I was very happy to find this restaurant, located in the back of Judith Glue, which by the way, is a quality souvenir shop that has quite tasteful items for sale. The food is excellent, with a variety of healthy as well as local dishes, and it is a comfortable, cheerful place. It is a perfect place to sit and... More

The cafe is at the back of Judith Glue's great knitwear/clothes/classy crafts shop (full of stuff you didn't know you wanted). The cafe serves great homemade soups, baked potatoes, a couple of hot dishes, sandwiches and salady things. The Westray crabs are my favourite thing on the menu. There are a few takeaway boxes of food in the chiller for... More

We visited this cafe in the back of Judith Glue's excellent shop several times for coffee during our week in Orkney. However the highlight was lunch we had. We chose the smorgasbord for 2 and were not disappointed. There was a great selection of local seafood and meats, well presented with local oatcakes and home made bread. If anything, there... More
