Best Option for Food

We had a short break of 40 minutes and had to manage the food within that time. I had examined all options in the town of Kirkwall and this was the best possible option for traditional vegetarian food. Make sure that before placing the order you inform them that you have limited time in hand.

I give 5 stars almost never for a retail place (store/restaurant/bar), but this place get them. Discovered just walking near the church in Kirkwall my first day there (april 2014), picked up some sandwiches while looking over menu. Was intrugued enough to come back and eat, and once we did, we never ate anywhere else in Kirkwall. Fresh seafood (I... More

Wholefood menu for normal people. Sandwiches, main meals, snacks, soups and desserts. Entered through the Judith Glue Shop which is one of the most popular outlets for knitwear, crafts etc all with a local connection. Actually walking through the shop is a lovely experience!

Very basic menu, ended up leaving after looking at it and not ordering anything. Quite disappointed. Nowhere else in Kirkwall was open for food so had to go to the co op to buy lunch and make it myself

Judith Glue's has become a failsafe for us in Kirkwall. The fare is largely local, simple, tasty and always nicely presented; prices are reasonable and it's open seven days a week, including six evenings. Soup (almost always orange in colour) and local delicious bere bannocks might be followed by a crab salad or baked tattie, then a homebake for dessert... More

I popped in here a few weeks back for some food at lunchtime and was impressed with the quality of the food. The cafe is to the rear of the shop, and is seemingly always busy, with both locals and visitors alike. Not the cheapest of menu's but the quality of the fayre speaks for itself.

The food is fresh and tasty, but the problem was the outrageous wait before it got served (nearly an hour).

It's all very good. Pleasant surroundings with happy staff serving interesting Real Food. We used it twice this trip. Once we wanted in and out swiftly, coffee and cake kinda thing. It happened! Just so. The other, we lazed a a bit over lunch and enjoyed the atmosphere, with no hassle.

Cafe at the rear of a shop. Varied menu, so hard to choose what was best. Opted for the beef burger. Fairly average for £ 9.95. Very friendly team, but would not rush back. Could be a little more creative.

Directly opposite St Magnus Cathedral this place is a must try if you are in the area. The cafe is at the back of a shop that sells good quality woollens, pottery and music. Everything is prepared on the premises in front of you from fresh and smoked local produce. We shared the Orkney Smorgasbord and asked the staff to... More
