Excellent food and service

We have not visited this restaurant with accommodation for some time but the choice of food was excellent and the quality when it arrived even better. The bar has an extensive choice of beers lagers and wines and the service was excellent. Worthwhile booking in advance. Highly recommended.

Decided to stay here to break-up a seven hour journey and ultimately wished we had just driven down to Exeter from Durham all the way on Thursday. The Royal Oak was set in a lovely location and the bedrooms were set back from the pub. The pub was very nice and we had an enjoyable evening meal and breakfast on... More

Pleasant renovated village pub with "motel type" rooms behind. Always busy. The food is tasty and produced with a lot more care and thought than the usual pub food, a talented chef. Not cheap by the standards of the area two courses and a bottle of Merlot came to just under £80 for two but if you are looking for... More

We visited The Royal Oak recently for lunch, this is the fourth or fifth time that we have visited in the last year and every time we visit and whatever we eat from the menu, we are not disappointed. Good service provided by friendly staff, good variety on the menu, decent beer choice at the bar and it represents decent... More

Typical gastro pub, fine if that is your liking, reasonable beer selection of average quality. Expensive food and wine. We will not rush to visit again.

New kids menu since we last ate here. I did like the concept that children could choose half portion of adult menu but I have to admit it was useful to have the option of fish and chips to offer to the children. The food is really nice pub food, well cooked and nicely presented - amazing fat chips! We... More

I recently visited her with three of my girlfriends and had a celebration birthday lunch. Boy, were we not disappointed. I've travelled with work a lot this year and I must admit, this has been the find of the year for me. The food was delicious and the chef was pretty hot too! I started with garlic mushrooms which were... More

A Pint of good beer and a Royal Oak sandwich (this time pork bell and a spanish meatball) including bowl of home made soup served by friendly staff. The perfect lunch.
