Cheap and tasty

Heard about this out of the way pub, and out of the way it is. Thought we wandering into the countryside but it was worth it. A snug place to eat on a chilly evening. The staff were friendly and the food tasty and reasonably priced. Low ceilings and the pub-dog lying in the corner gives the place... read more

We strolled to the Chequers from the local campsite (recommended as friendly). Clearly the locals do not want anyone other than locals as I suspect we dared to sit (in their stools) at the bar and several large men more than invaded our space! One member of staff was very welcoming and happy to share local knowledge, the remainder were... More

We called here for lunch during our circular walk between Lymington and Keyhaven, on a gorgeous sunny day. We ate out on the lawned area and each enjoyed a good Ploughman's with a tasty selection of cheeses and salad items. Staff were friendly and efficient. The only thing we didn't like was the scruffy marquee affair we had to walk... More

After a walk on the costal path we went here for lunch. Good choice of beer and food. Service good, staff helpful and friendly. Food came promptly and was of reasonable quality and quantity. Would return.

We had been told that the food here was excellent but it was not our experience. We tried the food here twice during our visit to the area and on both occasions the duck breast was overcooked. I would not return.

Our previous three visits to the Chequers didn't go well: on the first, the pub dog wouldn't leave us alone and had a bad slobbering habit; on the second, it was so full of Ya Ya Hooray Henries that it was completely overbearing and, on the third, we didn't get past the car park as we were met with the observation... Lovely pub, great under cover area outside. Friendly staff. Food very average - took a while for food to come to outlet table. Lasagne very meaty, over cooked garlic bread and half the plate was lettuce. Sirloin steak chewy but did get loads of mushrooms. And a bowl of free chips.

Excellent restuarant. Good food, sensible range of prices. In house wine is v. good value. Staff are competent and create a happy atmosphere. BUT. The hard wooden chairs limit how long i am willing to sit there. WHY NOT PUT CUSHIONS ON THEM if unwilling to buy comfortable ones.

We visited this pub with a last minute booking on Easter Sunday. All 5 of us + 2 dogs were very impressed by the warm welcome, the quality and pricing of the food & drink on offer. The service was excellent also with food arriving within 15 mins, piping hot, & good portions. The management team and staff deserve praise... More
