Had a snack lunch on a day when the weather was horrendous!! This probably accounted for the fact there was only one other table occupied on our arrival at 12-15p.m.The food was fine- soup and a sandwich and a tuna jacket potato. It just took ages to be served.Anybody meeting a deadline would have been in trouble. The main menu looks... More

We went here with a group of friends, we were welcomed on arrival. The menu is varied but having a black background was difficult to see with the lighting. Some customers were using their mobile phone torch to read it! We ordered starters and main courses. The starters came quite quick, presented well. I had the fish cake which was... More

There were 5 in our party today, 3 of them chose Haddock, it was enormous, very fresh and well cooked, we didn't have to wait long for our food to arrive, good choice of beers available too, the staff were very friendly, will definitely be coming back soon.

Five of us pitched up on a dismal December evening with a howling gale outside to the Royal Oak. We were with friends who have just moved to the area and were looking to try some local pubs to eat. I've eaten here once before a couple of years ago and the food was quite acceptable but apologise that since... More

Well well. We've had one of the best Sunday Carvery's ever at The royal Oak, Downton. The selection of roast meats and vegetables were out of this world. There was a selection of Turkey, Ham and Roast beef or you could have all three. Perfect roast vegetable lashings of yummy gravy. The staff were very attentive and there for your... More

Thank you for your review, made my day, so happy you enjoyed your meal. You made me smile when I read about the yorkshires. Lol. Promise that is the only batch we have ever messed up. They are usually huge and gorgeous . Have a great Christmas from us all More

We loved the atmosphere in the pub. There was a Christmas party under way and it was really jolly. We were told at the start that there was going to be a disco so that we fully aware. The landlady and her staff were very attentive without being intrusive and the food was lovely.

Whilst traveling to Lymington as an overnight stay on Business, I ate at the Royal Oak Downton Hampshire. The food was excellent, and service was certainly welcoming. The ambiance of the bar and dining room was festive with party people. I will defiantly return when back in the area.

We were staying at a country Park down the road from this pub and thought we would pop in on the Sunday afternoon with a view to booking a table to return that evening if we liked the venue and their menu. We went to the bar and asked for a diet coke and 2 x latte coffees. We were... More
