My daughter treated me for Mother's Day lunch and it was super. Our table was between the bar and the wood fire which was sociable and cosy. Another reviewer commented on the cold draught from the entrance but this wasn't a problem when everyone was in for the first of three sittings this particular afternoon. It is March after all!... We ate here on Mothering Sunday, on the first of three sittings that they had. The reason for us choosing the Blue Ball was that my parents had eaten there on a couple of week day lunchtimes and had great food and a good experience. The pub itself is a great mismatch of rooms and odd furniture, typical of such... More

Such great reviews,,,we were perhaps unlucky. To start with it appeared that they couldn't find our booking. We were seated in a very cold place opposite and close to the front door. The starter was wonderful. But my roast beef was tough and the roast potatoes and yorkshire puds were mediocre; ( I didn't tell my daughter as she was... More

17th century pub restaurant, where it looks worn, is because it's how it should look for a traditional, and obviously loved place, low ceilings, beams, fire, separate bar and eating are and they really know their beer and wine. Great from the moment we walked in. Really friendly staff, we were greeted immediately, were asked if we had booked and... More

Lovely Saturday lunch after a very muddy 5 mile walk. Even though the pub had just opened all the fires were lit and the place had a good atmosphere. Very warm and friendly welcome and the dog was also welcome in the drinks bar. Landlady and staff all extremely nice and the food was pretty good too. Very nice inside... More

We visited the Blue Ball for lunch with family. The ambiance in the pub was good, although where we were sitting a little cold and drafty. There were a number of wood burners, although the one near us was not burning well. The menu choice was good and exactly as shown on the website. The staff were friendly and helpful... More

Warm comfortable welcoming and calming environment, just how I remember a country hostelry. The service was spot on, courteous whilst being friendly and without being over familiar. The food ordered by our party of 6 was excellent, food for the eyes and delicious when eaten. Steak melted in the mouth, the mushroom starter served on a slice of brioche was... More

This was our first time at the Blue Ball, I had checked out reviews online before we came and I would have to say I feel that they are accurate. The staff are welcoming and very helpful, the food was of a high standard, we had fish which was well cooked and nicely presented and the homemade bread was really... More

Eaten here a couple of times and thoroughly enjoyed each visit. Offers varied choice from a menu that is not overwhelming. Food is cooked well and the complimentary bread is delicious. The pub itself is lovely and the staff are really friendly and attentive. It's worth a visit.
