My daughter's wedding day nearly had to be called off the night before the wedding because the pre-booked wedding venue had a fire. Late in the day on the day before the wedding a friend of a friend made a telephone call to this wonderful establishment asking for help to save the day. Low and behold the day of the... More

Not having been to the area I contacted Pip at the Blue Ball Inn to ask what was on at Christmas - she suggested coming to the Christmas Eve village event - starting at the local church and probably finishing at the pub. - what a lovely few hours - and what a pub - chocolate box - fabulous log... While the cosy ambiance with super log fires and the service matched recent reports of excellence, our food seemed amateurish in some respects. The asparagus starter was an excellent and nicely balanced dish while the duck pate was clumsily served in excessive quantity but tasted very good. The steak and ale pie was very good apart from the topping that... More

The staff were very friendly and efficient, a welcoming log fire and an extensive menu. The food was well cooked and very tasty.

Four of us went for Sunday lunch. Pigeon breast starter was excellent. The roast beef - well you got loads, plus yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes and a dish of veg as well as a strip of crackling! The xmas pudding ice-cream was really tasty. The staff were friendly. Only small niggles were some of staff reached over us to pass... More

Great venue with country rustic feel. Menu is simple but good value with generous portions . We arrived Sunday at 1230 to a little under prepared staff still lighting fires and slightly drafty room but things got better very quickly when the delicious artichoke soup arrived! Swift service and good wine choices made for a pleasant pre xmas family meal

This pub is simply idicic and located at the heart of a chocolate box village in Rutland. With a charming thatched roof, enchanting inglenook fireplaces and quirky country features hidden in ever corner! I just love this place! The smell of real fires in a country pub is priceless!! The owners are so inviting it's as if they're welcoming you... More

Had lunch here with a friend today . We had looked for somewhere able to serve gluten free food and their standard menu has several dishes which are either naturally gluten free or can be adapted. They had a number of specials on the board and kindly adapted the pheasant dish for me. They had to omit the sauce but... More
