Boxing day lunch

My wife, our 8 year old son and I had lunch here on a very rainy boxing day. It was almost the only restaurant open in Ross. The setting on the edge of the Wye is superb and the bar lady friendly. The cauldron of vin chaud was finished by 2.30pm when we arrived so they were all in good... read more

Our party of 14 all enjoyed the meals and attentive service from the staff here. For me, the portions were too large, but for anyone with a big appetite, tuck in! I had 'Whale of a Fish', and they weren't joking, others who had the Gammon, and Steak & pAle Pie were also staggered at the size of their meals.... More

We are locals and tend to eat out on a regular basis, The White Lion is one of our favourite places for it's homely welcoming atmosphere, good food and staff who are willing to adapt the menu to suit your individual requirements. Lovely location for lunch alfresco.

Thank you to all at the White Lion for making our weekend of October canoeing and camping very amenable! For a group of us who were meeting up from all directions with differing wishes this was a great base, we enjoyed; hearty food, warming fire, relaxed atmosphere and beautiful misty views over the river.

We have eaten here several times but our latest visit was very good. We both had the "Whale of a fish" (It's Cod) and it was the best fish and chips we have had in a long long time and it was wonderful value for money. The cod was massive and stopped us both and we had no room for... More

We booked a table here for a Saturday night. When we arrived they couldn't find the booking, said all the tables were booked but then tried to show us to a table in the door way. Staff very offhand. Probably ok for a drink outside by the river but we didn't bother to stay to try the food. Poor atmosphere... More

Very nice Garden Restaurant directly on the Why river. Nice Staff and even better Food. Absolutely to recommend is the " Whale of a fish" huge portion for absolutely exceptable money. No worries this have nothing to do with Whale at all rather regarding to size of the fish.

We camped in the pub garden a stones throw away from the river for a reasonable fee. We also enjoyed a brilliant dinner with one of the best Thai green curries that i have ever tasted outside of Thailand. Would recommend this place as an ideal place to stop at during a canoe trip down the river Wye.
