Good food, friendly service and historic decor.

We have eaten here twice since moving to Ross-on-Wye recently. The 'traditional' Sunday lunch is excellent and the weekday bar menu is very good. Three ales are available on hand pumps. The staff are efficient and friendly. During the day the bar and restaurant are an oasis of calm gentility, and... read more

Every part of our meal had so much effort put in, vegy's were gorgeous, meringue in Eton Mess was homemade with real vanilla cream etc. Service was really friendly and restuarant very nice. Definitely be going again!!

Love this place, the queen size bed we had was so comfy, the rooms are clean and comfortable, it's our 3rd visit and each time we've had a different room, all of which were lovely, each one clean and comfortable, with quirky details, like sloping creaky floors, beams, open fireplaces's all the things that modern hotels can't replicate, lovely friendly... Called in one lunchtime while on hols because we knew it was the oldest Inn in town. Well the food was absolutely fantastic and amazing value for money, everything prepared freshly on the premises, bread baked every morning, marvellous.

I booked over the phone as there was no e-booking facility on their website, and when we got there they had no record of the booking. It was a busy Saturday night but they managed to squeeze us in. E-booking at least gives you a confirmation: it might be wise to confirm the booking on the day. Once there, the... More

We visited twice for evening meal. We ate in a lovely room next to the Bar with a couple of dining tables, settees and tub chairs, quiet and tastefully decorated. The Menu would suit most people, we had the beer battered fish with fries and minted peas which was delicious. We were not offered a dessert or coffee so sat... More

We stopped here one early Saturday evening on the way back from a Black Mountains walk. We had fresh asparagus for starters (maybe slightly too al dente but perfectly fine) and I had a beefburger with a myriad of accompaniments and my wife had haloumi kebabs with couscous. We couldn't fault either main and the service was very friendly and... More

We did not stay here as it was fully booked however we did go for drinks in the bar which was cosy and pleasant. The restaurant was airy and light and the staff were all very attentive and friendly. However we were disappointed with the food, we shared the smoked salmon bruschetta, a tiny platter of three minuscule pieces of... More
