Lunch by the sea

Another Devon Beach Café..........except that it isn't. The sandy beach is just the right size and it even has a ruined castle. The café roof looks wobbly and the car park is full. It is Mother's Day and inside is full but a window table is suddenly available. The lunch menu is true to the name... read more

We went here for seafood it was ok but not great. We ordered a bottle of wine and soft drinks, £104 pounds. Yes we had a seafood platter for starter with lobster! Chewy and not worth the money! The main course was steak baguette, steak was cold and fatty! The rest was good! The place is dirty and needs a... More

Location is lovely but not well kept, could do with a refurb of the whole outside area. Food okay but a little overpriced, simple things like serving butter with bread would help. Confused identity I think, is it a restaurant/bistro/cafe????

Excellent position just by the beach. Enjoyed a hearty soup. Only one member of staff on, so had a little wait. You order at desk, then food is brought to you. Quite a good choice of meals including crab & lobster.

Read all adverse reviews and was expecting the worst but just back from a good meal at the WP. Food was good, freshly cooked but not massively exciting...had a great whole Dover sole...but it is a bit pricey...espec starters and desserts. Place was full and there was a family party of 18/20 yet the service was top drawer...very friendly and... More

This is a great location with plenty of parking on a fairly quiet day. The food Crab and prawn salad was tasty and service good. I can't imagine though what it would be like on a busy Summer's evening or even a February half term. I'm glad to say I have tried it but would have no wish to go... More

We are in Salcombe over half term and have had a fabulous time. We happened across the Sailor v cafe/restaurant and were so impressed we have been back twice. So, having had such a good experience we expected similar from the Winking Prawn. We are totally dumbfounded by the experience we just had at the Winking Prawn. The service was poor... More

Great little relaxed "hang out" right on the beach at North Sands, Salcombe. It gives great service for families (the dressing up box was being used to its maximum by excited youngsters) and has space for you to bring dogs too. This does mean that it might feel too "chaotic" for some (the summer must get very busy!) but if... More

Looked ok and dog friendly, not very clean, toilets a disgrace what does it say about the kitchen. Service was friendly and prompt but we have most certainly had much better. Local crab sandwich was only average and not very tasty. Brie and Bacon sandwich was very poor, fatty cold bacon and not sure about the Brie. Good location but... More
