I love this place, the bar and decor hits the nail on the head for me. You can tuck yourself away and have sweet nothing whispered in your ears from your partner whilst having a cosy drink or a nice lunch. its quite big although you wouldnt think so from the outside. its nice and clean and generally a great... I've eaten at Browns restaurant many times over the years but stopped last year because of a change in pricing and a drop in standards - sad, as this place used to be consistently good and one of my favourite eateries in Tavistock. Recently however, I met up with a friend for 'high tea' in Browns and at £13.50 a... More

Today popped into Browns for lunch,Have done this over the last few years, but today was different.Service was good, until I was shown to my seat and asked if I could wait for menus as all the others were being used. I waited for my meal and read the paper for a while,I was given a basket with two slices of... More

This brasserie is part of Browns Hotel and as we had very much enjoyed staying in the lovely hotel in the past, but not eaten in-house, we were certainly looking forward to having lunch here. We were sadly disappointed, however. Although service was friendly, the food can only be described as terrible. A leek and potato soup that was truly... More

Nice food, locally sourced in most cases; small portions, expensive, the service in the nice restaurant is not particularly relaxing.

Went here for NYE at £100 per head taster menu with wine flight. Extremely disappointed. I tried to feed back directly to the restaurant and they made it very difficult to do so. Once I actually spoke with someone the response I got was not what I would expect from a so called 4star boutique hotel. Very disappointing and frankly... More

Following positive reviews, 8 of us decided to visit Browns on NYE for a set menu and wine flight..... What a let down. The portion sizes were laughable, main courses were cold and dishes we heavily under seasoned. Our disappointment was compounded by the flippant attitude of the staff. At no point were the wines explained and when asked how... More

We went to browns as a party of five good friends for a pre xmas celebration. We had a reccomendation from a friend and expected good things. Very little choice on the menu, what was served was extremely small portions, the meat almost 50% fat, the cost of the items too high for food served. The staff were not interested... More

My husband and I dined here - a special 5 course taster menu. Before dinner we had drinks in the bar area and the waiter was most helpful. We noticed that the first course on our taster menu was the same soup we had had for lunch - a quick word with the chef and we were offered a delicious... More

We ate here at lunchtime on a Saturday. Having previously been for dinner we had high expectations as that was lovely. However, it wasn't meant to be. The service was good, but my meal (a blue cheese frittata) was tasteless - not enough cheese - and my husband felt quite unwell for 3 days after eating the crab cakes. Whilst... More
