Description: In the ancient parish of Brook, under the ridge of the Brabourne downs sits a gem of an inn, The Honest Miller. This village inn, built in 1609, was for many years a meeting place for countrymen out pigeon shooting and hare coursing. It was also where the local hunt would meet, waiting on horseback to receive their mulled wine and spirits.Today, in this historic atmosphere, the attractions are a little different. Sit in the beautiful old English beer garden sipping quality real ale, or enjoy a ploughman’s lunch among the free range chickens. The beer garden is ideal for children, with a resident Shetland pony, rabbits, guinea pigs, sheep and ducks.Inside, the inn oozes charm, with an open log fire and friendly welcome. It’s a romantic spot for couples to enjoy a candlelit dinner. Walkers and cyclists are also valued customers, along with their dogs. The kitchen is the hearts of this place – you need look no further for a superior home-made meal. Melt-in-the-mouth Romney Marsh lamb shanks, slow roasted and served with leek and rosemary gravy are just one of the delights on offer. Start with roasted butternut & vegetable soup, or creamy goat’s cheese with roasted peppers. Try our rack of Pork belly ribs with hickory barbecue sauce and homemade chips or Haddock with a mature cheddar & herb crumble topping. Desserts include Italian tiramisu, with Madeira and mascarpone, apple blackberry crumble, bread and butter pudding and lemon meringue pie. There are also vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free dishes.

I had Sunday lunch with my partner and I have to say that it was great. We used a Groupon voucher and we both had roast beef with all the trimmings and a pudding. I was a little put off by some of the negative comments posted and I have to say that I didn't experience any of it. Our... More

Whislt I generally rate restaurants by the quality of the food (their raison d'etre) many more things matter in a good customer-experience. In this case I suggest the white ying/yang cruets do the job...in!....When did you last see pin-prick cruets in a decent eatery? Sea salt mills and pepper grinders have been de riguer for years. Brook is quite a... More

Loved this place previously under the ownership of a lovely Geordie when the food was superb. Went back on Sunday for the first time in a whole to find it's changed hands. Food was awful. From a rubbery roast beef, flat-as-a-pancake Yorkshires - which they apologised for yet still served! - to just TWO roast potatoes and horribly overcooked veg,... More

We gave this pub a good review about a month ago as we felt they were really trying to make it work. Sadly, last night it felt more like they had given up. We booked a table for 4 at 7pm - when we arrived, the guy behind the bar made a point of telling us the kitchen closed at... More

A lovely looking pub in a typical English setting. No complaints at all about the food, just some suggestions to make the lunchtime experience perfect Why no Lunch menu ? Say,3 courses for £14.95 2 for £11 using the lighter bites as main course Make the eating section look separate and smarter from the drinking part , maybe, simply by using... More

My husband and I decided to give this pub a try having eaten there when the previous owners were there. I have to say I was a little disappointed with the lack of attention to detail whilst the batman was very friendly he gave us menus but failed to mention the specials which we noticed after we had ordered and... Visited with family and had a lovely meal. I had the sausage baguette which was very nice, the roll was lovely and fresh, as was the salad, and the home made chips on the side were great! Rest of the party had scampi and a kids pasta dish, both of which were very nice i'm told! Very nice chocolate brownie... More

Great little pub, with excellent food, offered smaller portions at reduced price, only problem it leaves you room for desert!!! Dog friendly both in the bar and garden, but must be on a lead as free range chickens wander about. If there is one complaint the garden could do with a tidy, and the benches are looking a little tired

My partner and I visited here about 3 weeks ago for a late lunch. The young gentleman who served us was very attentive and kind, could not fault the service. When we sat down I couldn't help but notice the dead flies lying on the grubby looking windowsill directly next to our tables... Not the best look! The menu is... More
