If you enjoy fine food and a warm welcome then Carriages Italian Restaurant is a must for you to visit. This visit was a special occasion for my partners birthday and the owners and staff made our night very very enjoyable with attention to detail with the decorations and excellent italian food. The dinning area has a unique quality inside... More

We couldn't quite get our head around how unique this place is - a pub/authentic Italian restaurant set in a beautiful 'train carriage' and station inside a traditional stone English cottage in Derbyshire. As we walked in we had a lovely warm welcome at the 'booking office' before being led through to the 'station' for a drink while we waited... More

We chose to go to Carriages as the last meal of our 2 week holiday and made the 5 minute drive out of Buxton up into the hills. The restaurant is highly unique in setting as you dine in one of 2 purpose built in the main restaurant all decorated as per first class pullman express trains of the steam... More

As frequent visitors to Italy, we recognise good Italian food when we taste it. This was good. The service is very friendly and efficient and there is a wide choice with some specials. The railway carriage setting is unusual and much more attractive than the outside of the building would suggest.

We again went to our favourite restaurant for another birthday meal. This has to be the most unique restaurant we have ever been too, great setting, fab hosts and staff, brilliant food to die for. Nothing left and people being quiet as they eat, shows how much we all enjoyed it. Pasta was just perfect and the Lamb dish was... More

I with 9 other ladies spent the weekend in buxton to celebrate the forthcoming wedding of our friend. We booked the carriages restaurant and during the booking when we informed of our celebration we were offered some decorations to reflect the celebration which was a great touch. On arrival the name really comes to life as the restaurant is made... More

This was our first visit to Carriages and it definitely will not be our last. Although we only had lunch we were made to feel welcome and the staff were very attentive. The food was absolutely divine, nothing was too much trouble. The railway carriage made the experience unique and what a fantastic idea to offer bibs, that were greatly... More

The décor is interesting, unusual, well maintained and spotlessly clean. The service is very good and the welcome is great. However, we had the bar meals and the standard of my"cod" was very poor. If, indeed, it was cod, it was mushy and did not taste very nice. Perhaps it was frozen and then had been over cooked. The chips... More
